Ot anyone ever tried embroidery with left hand ?

I'm so sorry you hurt your hand and I hope it heals quickly. It must be so frustrating for you not to be able to do your beloved embroidery.

Can you still knit or crochet?

I've never heard of LAOS embroidery. Please let us know about it when you find more information.

Sorry you're hurt. I hope you won't be in a cast for long.

It takes a while to retrain your brain to working with your non- dominant hand. If you stick with it, you might have some interesting results.

Otherwise I guess you can always use this time to plan lots of future projects.

Considering that I *am* left-handed, I do so every time I pick up a needle!!! I have used my right in conjunction with my left for larger pieces, but it is awkward and slow - until I get used to it, then the pace picks up.

Poor you - did you have a fall?

Hope it soon mends. We don`t bounce so well as we get older!

I can write a bit m but mostly rewad eventyping with left is tiresome with the heavy anchor on the other side ,,,, so now i can`t avoid finnishing some rearch book i have been pushing aside ,,, mirjam and planning ,,,,,

When I began stitching again, I did it with stab stitching rather than 'sewing' My right and dominant hand is beneath the material and my left hand is above. This is one of the only times (at least the one of the times I can mention in public) that my left hand is of use.

I had the similar but opposite problem left handed and left wrist in a scafoid case. and since I am left handed am not bad with the right... The orthopedic dr said I could stitch but not play with cast iron pots... so no open hearth cooking. but if I wanted to keep warm keep the fire going....

What I did that worked. I found small pieces of perforated paper light enough that I could prop my elbow up on a table with the casted hand holding the pp. I chose small projects about 3x3 in max and did cross stitch. Using 19th century authentic berlin work patterns. I finished them with a felt backing and a ribbon. Did about 6 of them that month and five of them sold. The geometric I was not too fond of when it was finished did not sell yet. Stab stitch only with non casted hand. I use scissors right handed because left handed scissors are not work the effort... You might try the snips instead of scissors they work better with either hand.

I remember being told that in the days when naturally left handed children were MADE to use their non-dominant hand it often led to stammering!!! I suppose there might have been some truth in it - it must have been pretty stressful for a child.

Yes - thank goodness they don`t think like that nowadays. But don`t left handed people look awkward writing? European/American people that is. I have two left handed grandsons and it does look difficult. I had the dubious pleasure of teaching my left-handed sister-in-law how to crochet. It was hopeless while she sat beside me, but when she sat directly opposite me, the problem was solved! I never dared try to introduce her to tatting!

Those people from countries that write from right to left across the page are OK. I wonder if there are more left handed people in those countries, though?

Speaking as a person from a country where we INDEED do write from right to left ,,, i will tell you that right handed is better ,,, But do you know why we write from right to left ,, because we started writing on Stome with chisel and hammer and it is more reasonable to chisel from right to left for the many right handed people !!!! mirjam

Actually, I was taught by a left-handed stitcher. It was easier than when she tried to teach me to knit!
