G'*day*! I haven't 'seen' you in ages! Years, even!

How are you and what have you been up to? DD is fourteen now and nearly as tall as me (she no longer does Barbidols, thank heaven). DS is pretty much the same, only balder. DH is building me a mausoleum (garden) in the back yard. I am good. Alice is good. Cats are good. Mice are moribund but my flowers are *great*, mate!

Whether a person likes or voted for Obama or not, he has been elected President of the US, and the office deserves respect. As President- Elect, so does he. If and when he does something incredibly wrong or stupid (as all Presidents seem to do sooner or later), the press, Congress, and the federal courts will be there as very effective watch- dogs, reporters, and repairmen, and the voters will have the ultimate say-so in 4 more years. Let's give the man a chance, and stop spewing the acid and hate -- the election is over, folks! It's time to settle down, get along, and see what we can all do to make this a better place.

Mary, I completely agree with you. Respect for the office has to be given. I didn't vote for him, but like it or not, he WILL be President, and as such is worthy of respect.

I think that is what I dislike most about all this spewing (good description). I HATE the insulting way the current President is referred to. He, too is Pres, and is at least deserving of the same respect that I will give Sen Obama.

I remember when Pres Clinton was elected, my US Navy son said to me..."he is now our Commander in Chief, and we will treat him with respect". Hard to believe the same son is retiring next year after 26 years of service to this country.

During my school days in the Devonian Period, we were taught that any President, present or past, is to be known as President Whatever. But, I guess it won't be long before we get a new equivalent of the Dubya handle.

Official old-school US etiquette is that only the sitting president is referred to as President Whatever or Mr. President. Ex-presidents revert immediately to Mr. Whatever (or their most recent title prior to becoming president). This etiquette is observed largely in the breach, however, whether its by those who refer to ex-presidents less formally or by those who continue to refer to ex-presidents as Mr. President or President Whatever.

Trish, my dear, that has to be you, you are the only one that calls me E. Coli, lol. I am absolutely wonderful. I am a Granna now, I have three grandbabies. I watch two of them during the day while their "Mum" teaches school. And I see the other one quite often too. I have two granddaughters, both four years old, and a grandson who is 2 1/2. They are the love of my life. All the kids are doing good, two are married and the other one is seriously dating someone. One daughter is a teacher, son owns his own business and the baby daughter will graduate from law school next month (she just got married this past June). I can't believe your little girl is fourteen, wow, how time flies. And I would expect Mattie to be the same, he is such a sweetie. I have been busy this summer putting in two new flower gardens myself. One is pretty much done, the other will need more work next summer too. I haven't been doing as much cross stitching as I have been mostly devoting my time to quilting. Let's see by Christmas I hope to have: 3 talking quilts done -- one for each grandbaby -- I am quilting the third one now, so just bindings for those; 3 I-spy quilts -- one for each grandbaby -- all three of those are pieced -- hope to start the quilting on those next week; 4 quilts from the same pattern (by Eleanor Burns) called Summer Porch but I did one with spring looking fabrics, one with summer fabrics, one with autumn fabrics and, of course, one with winter fabrics -- one will go to DH and one to each of my kids (these are almost all pieced and will be shipped out to a long arm quilter next week); and finally 5 jar quilts -- I have only started piecing these -- DH's will be made with fabrics with candy and chocolate on them and the three for my kids and the one for my "Mum" have veggies and fruits -- I still need to finish piecing these and then quilt them. SIGH and all by Christmas, hehehe. So, that is what? 15 quilts, yikes, I am nuts!!!! So what have you been doing -- cross stitching (and on what?) and/or quilting (what ya been making?)?

And I think it has been years, at least four, because I don't think you knew I was a Granna and I sure don't remember you baby being fourteen, hehehe.

I guess I was sleeping thru THAT class. Or maybe I got mixed up with how one should address widows and divorcees.

One of the handiest, and least used, parts of a good dictionary is the "forms of address" section at the back. Many people don't even know it's there, unfortunately. However, you should check it out sometime just for fun!
