OT: Fire

While I was at work, but the rest of my family was home yesterday we had a fire in the master bedroom. A space heater apparently had a meltdown and blew hot flaming oil out on a wall, which caught fire.

Structurally there is not a lot of damage from the fire. The sheetrock did it's job, kept the worst of it from reaching the 2 x 4's within the wall. However, the fireman in the course of their job broke a bunch of windows, the skylights and cut holes in ceilings and roof. My middle dd's bedroom has a new "skylight."

Not sure when I'll be around again, life is pretty unpredictable right now.

BTW, my WIPs were in the room with the worst damage, haven't had the heart to take a good look at them yet.

Good wishes are more than welcome!

Caryn I'm so sorry. Thank goodness no people were hurt. This surely is going to mess up your holiday preparations, I trust your insurance company pays up in timely fashion. Can you still live in the house, or are you going to have to move out?

About the WIPs, now you don't have to finish the ones you were getting bored with, you can start all new ones!!!

Good wishes coming your way.

Olwyn mary,

It is so good to hear from you directly on the group. Tia Mary did a super job of keeping folk informed. We left Bay St Louis a couple of days before Katrina hit. Sheer luck, but I did worry about you.

Have a thankful, if not merry, Christmas, and may the new Year be good to you, and your fellow New Orleans folk.

Good wishes are coming your way. I'm just glad no one was harmed and I know it's difficult but try to remember, it's just things and they can be replaced.

I'm glad everyone is ok. Hope your home can be repaired quickly to keep the weather out. Too bad about the WIPs--maybe you'll be lucky and only UFOs and PFHs got damaged! Is the rest of your stash ok?

What brand of space heater caused this? I want to know what heater to avoid!

Oh CARYN! How dreadful for you - good thoughts and hugs from here, anyway - thank goodness everyone is safe. I do hope your UFO only smell of smoke and had no actual fire damage.

Just as I started to type this our smoke alarm went off - John had burned our Pizza!!!

Yikes! Sorry to hear about the fire, but so glad you, your family and pets are ok. If there's anything I can do, stashwise or otherwise, just LMK.

Caryn,

My best thoughts and wishes go out to you. Not that we ever need tragedy, but at this time of year it tends to hit us hardest. Know that we are a bunch of shoulders to lean on.

Caryn,

I am so sorry this has happened to you and your family and so glad that you and they are all safe.

There is lots 'o stash (not just crewel stuff) here at my house that would be perfectly happy in a new home. Let me know what you need.

OH, NO! Glad to hear everyone is safe and I'll keep my fingers crossed for the WIPs! I also pray that your insurance company is a good one and easy to deal with.
