OT: For that 'certain' crowd

I've had a conch chowder once - wonderful flavor. Oysters are best in stew for me - only the little ones do I eat raw.

We get wonderful mussels here, either cultivated or wild for the picking. I like them steamed in a little white wine and garlic. Had some the other day, served opened in the shell from the steamer with a thick garlic/wine sauce over them. That was kind of a tasty way also.

Mine too, can't think of one that doesn't anyway. Perhaps that's it Cheryl, take yourself out and go to that place in Kittery and have a wonderful seafood meal. Not the one where we had lunch, the other one (well known) half way along the main drag in town. Worth the drive and order two different plates, all for you lol

I don't eat oysters raw anymore, not unless I have seen them come out of the water, far too risky because of pollution. I love them baked. Simply open the shells and lay the oyster in the 'bowl' of the shell on a cookie sheet. Make a mix of bread crumbs, parsley, a little shredded Swiss cheese and pureed garlic. Sprinkle generously over the oysters, little dab of butter on each and bake in a 400 deg oven for about ten minutes, till slightly browned. They are actually far more tasty this way.

Sometimes I just bake them with a generous piece of bacon atop each, that's nice too.

I already can't get the house warm, so I have no intention of getting out of my nice warm bed till the cold snap leaves us on Monday. Got my stitching and a stack of DVDs.

However, if it makes you feel any better, it just started pouring rain.

Right now we have 71F and humid. We are expecting rain tomorrow and Sunday, then yet another cool front next week. (I always chortle when the local weathercasters talk about a "cold front". Such things rarely happen here.)

A little bit too warm for me, I find I can withstand coldness (put on another, thicker sweater) but heat just exhausts me. The forecast up here for tomorrow (Saturday) is showers - wintry at times with hail - becoming less frequent overnight. A brighter, cool day with sunny or clear spells, with showers of sleet and hail and F4-5 SW to W?ly winds until evening when they will increase F5-6 NW?ly. Swell ? SW?ly high at 5 or 6 metres. The schools all closed early this afternoon because of the high winds and torrential rain. So, if you want some REALLY bracing & invigorating weather, come to Orkney!

That is why there is a "For Sale" sign outside our house!!!!! I HATE=20 Florida weather year round, and am yearning to move really north where=20 there are truly defined seasons. My husband grew up in New England, so=20 he is well familiar with the weather!

When we were younger, and in the workforce, it was a different story.=20 Now we are retired, and if the roads are impassable, so-be-it!! Have a=20 generator, and hubby can play on the computer,; throw a log on the fire=20 and I can sit and knit,read, stitch etc. I rather doubt that we will=20 get a sale, but northern/mid New Hampshire is calling to us!!

Ouch. The weather is so confused here - it went from about 70 to 30 with windchill about 15, then back to 40ish. Supposedly going to be warm again this weekend. My poor rhodies think they should be blooming - there came up bud pods about 3 weeks ago.

No, I went to the Quarterdeck with the friend I was travelling with, but when Dr Brat and Cheryl drove over to have lunch with us, we went to a nice restaurant, but not that one. It was down by the sea. Cheryl or Brat will remember the name and place.

I thought the squid at the Quarterdeck was excellent and the next night I had clams, all good.
