OT!!! Japan trip quick report!

Thanks to all who were waiting for my trip report! I went over to Japan, =

with some trepidation, as y=92all know!

1The food didn=92t sound too appetizing, would I starve?

2 There was a major language problem, would I be able to cope?

3 The flight was longer than any I had experienced before! Would the=20 kids be there at the airport?

Well, the final report was that it was fantastic!!!! All went well on=20 the journey over, enough to eat (including sushi) and we arrived in=20 Narita Tokyo about on time. Immigration and Customs went smoothly, and I =

saw my son at the gate as I came out of customs. Aya was behind him, and =

I used the one Japanese word I had practiced on the flight =93daughter=94= ,=20 and hugged her. Our bond was sealed!

It was a very long drive back to where they live, through Tokyo itself.=20 On the return trip we took the train which was much easier for Ayako.

They have a small rented house of base, and it is walking distance from=20 everything (trains, base etc). The bathroom is to die for!! You take a=20 shower, then relax in the heated tub, with TV at the end! The toilet had =

heated seats, warm bidets (both ends) automatic flush, an ALL toilets=20 have a concave bowl at the top of the tank, with a water spigot, so when =

you flush, you can rinse your hands!

We saw so many temples, shrines and beautiful flowers. My son took=20 leave, and they are very close to Kamakura, the home of the giant=20 Buddha, dating back to the 1300s. Aya grew up in this area, and took off =

one day to show us little known sites.

We went to Tokyo for the Annual Golden Dragon Dance, and the most=20 delicious meal I have ever eaten, in a very old restaurant.

All my pictures are temples, shrines, and food, so it seems. We ate at=20 many varieties of Japanese places, and I felt as if I could live on=20 their food forever. My son is a Sumo fan, and a big tournament was on=20 while I was there, so many late afternoons were spent at the CPO Club=20 watching these events, It is a little more than two fat guys bumping=20 chests. I saw Mt Fuji several time, with a lot of snow on top, but=20 always in a train or car, so couldn=92t take a picture!! This is my wordy birds-eye view of Japan. My daughter-in-law is a=20 =93keeper=94, and I warned Mike, I would probably always side with her.

I didn=92t mention the Craft shop (4 stories), but was definitely drool=20 worthy!!

It sounds like you had a great time. How did Aya like the cross stitch you made for them? She sounds like a lovely young woman and a terrific addition to your family.

To be technically correct, that should be spelled Gill-san (r&d&h). Kon ban-wa, Gill-san CiaoMeow >^;;^<

How wonderful, Gillian -- for your son, your new daughter, and for you.

I'm so glad it was such a wonderful experience.
