Japan trip

I know some of you are wondering where I am off to next! Well, back to Japan on Tuesday. This time we are spending 3 days in Tokyo and then flying to the northern island of Hokkaido for 10 days. The quilting there is interesting by all accounts, by the Ainu indigenous people. It rather looks like the Hawaiian method and altho the designs are dissimilar. The island's proximity to the Russian archipelagos is a big influence. A quilter has given me some places (stores) to visit in Sapporo and we shall keep an eagle eye out in the

3 other towns/cities we visit along the way. The island's other attractions are flowers (cool weather ones - tulips etc, some cherry), seafood, national parks, cranes and other birds in the Kushiro Marshes. DH and I are traveling by train utilising the rail pass. I've been practising 30 Japanese phrases to get us through shopping/restaurants etc. English speaking will not be as wide spread as on Honshu, but that said, Japanese students all seem to learn English these days, so we shall turn to the youngsters in the street.

Sayonara!

Bronnie I am so envious. Japan is one place DH and I talked about visiting when we were first together. We even studied Japanese (briefly) together in preparation. Careers, kids, houses, dogs and life in general got in the way. But one of these days we're headed there. So enjoy every second.

Thanks Jeanne! I was looking for a Ainu website link when I wrote the post. so thanks for finding a good one. I'm only 5'2" so I'll fit in well by the sound of it! No heels. (not after breaking an ankle on my last trip . ) Maybe I can go clothes shopping and find something to fit hey. Bronnie

When we were in Japan in 2002 -- we were amazed at how many Japanese school children approached us (especially at the tourist attractions - temples, etc) where they were on a field trip. They had worksheets that they needed to complete... IN ENGLISH. They weren't so much studying the location -- but us! LOL

Enjoy -- I loved Japan!
