My absolute, most favoritest Christmas music is John Denver & the Muppets Christmas album. Silent night, 12 days of Christmas, and The Christmas wish, especially.

Now, y'all know I edit a music magazine (Dirty Linen: Folk and World Music). Every year I coordinate the holiday reviews and do a few myself, so I'm immersed in holiday music in August, usually. That might be one reason I don't start listening to real Christmas music until much closer to Christmas Day! I'll stick to Handel's "Messiah" for most of the Advent season, thank you very much...

We have a huge CD collection, and a substantial holiday CD collection. For several years I also judged holiday CDs for an awards program, and got CDs of such diversity - try judging "Surf Guitar Christmas" against "Bach's Holiday Chorales at the Some-Big-German-Cathedral Organ" or "A Hurdy-Gurdy Christmas" (played by Ethan James, a former rock musician who had an extensive collection of hurdy-gurdies; that's actually become one of my favorite holiday albums).

About two years ago I was baking cookies or something in the kitchen just days before Christmas and had NPR on the radio. There was a segment by the person who does the "truly awful music show," talking about some of the holiday CDs he'd been sent, and I realized we had ALL BUT ONE of them (we actually had also had the other one, by a "pop" artist that shall go unnamed, but had passed it along because it *was* truly awful). We have "Power Tool Christmas", "Rubber Band Christmas" (songs played on rubber bands), all sort of folk, Celtic, instrumental, classical crossover, ethnic, solstice......and, yes, Handel's "Messiah" (the original, the soul one, and a rock one), and the "Nutcracker" with "real" sound effects. Most of them I can't listen to straight through, but with the shuffle I can go for days and never hear the same thing twice (thank heaven - how many times would one WANT to hear a buzz saw performing "O Come All Ye Faithful"??!!!)

I have some pretty strange stuff myself. You'll have to come visit and peruse my collection.

Statute of limitations has expired, so I can now confess, I looted from the radio station "The Naked Carmen". (I was the only person who played it, so I was sure it wouldn't be missed.) Now, that's weird. Got to get one of those multi-function stereo systems that will copy your vinyl to CD, since I haven't been able to play it for years.

I had that once upon a time in vinyl. Long gone :(

I have the entire album on vinyl. I wonder if it's available on CD? I'll have to check that out since I LOVE Miss Piggy -- she's ne of my role models, ya' know :-). I am listening to Christmas music on AOL again and they just played one of my other favourites -- Carol of the Bells -- VBS. It's impossible to have just one favourite Christmas song or carol -- there's just too many wonderful ones out there! CiaoMeow >^;;^<
