OT: Movies

I know from time to time movies are discussed. Sometimes needlework is being done, sometimes not.

Recently I saw the movie "Bicentennial Man" with Robin Williams and thought it was such a sweet film. It has an interesting message about love and humanity. It's actually a movie kids can watch.

We saw Batman: The Dark Knight and loved it. I'm not comic bookish, but it was very good. PG-13, but definitely not for anyone younger than 11, IMO. Some of the effects, particularly Two Face, are a bit gory.

Another really nice film for women who are home during the day is "An Unfinished Life" with Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman, and I was especially impressed by the role Jennifer Lopez played. She was very good in it.

One last one, "The Horse Whisperer." Oh my goodness I can watch that romantic movie all day.

I thought that this film, was more a warning sign, that when people change nature`s laws, they should think about the consequences. mirjam

We thought differently. First off, it science fiction. You can never turn a robot into a biological human no matter what you do. However, in the ficticious film, the robot had more humanity and compassion than the humans, for the most part. If it's a warning, it's a warning that we humans are losing our humanity.

Ah - you should read the book. MUCH MUCH better than the movie.

The book is called something else, isn't it? Positronic Brain or something?

When a writer or another kind of artist , takes his /her idea and `plants` in a `different ` suroundings than our`s , it doesn`t take away the fact , that his obsevations, are about OUR society`s behaviours and /or actions. He She uses that different background either as a metaphor , or as a way to criticise society, or warn society about certain possible developments of some trends or things happening in it.

Of course it was science fiction. And you were so quick to oppose me that you don`t notice that your own comment wasn`t so far after all from mine .. We only worded it differently..

I don`t agree that the robot had more compassion , he reminded me much of another Long Gone by book ,, Of a servant /slave being more compassionate that his masters ,,, It is the same formula.. mirjam

Nope - The Bicentennial Man - more of a novella than a novel, but well worth reading. I, Robot was also very good.

Are you talking about the book or the movie?

I looked it up and if it's Issac Asimof's book, it is called "Positronic Man."

Nope - sounds like a collection of his robot stories - though that could be a title used in the UK or such

Bicentennial Man won a Hugo in 1977 and several other major sciencefiction awards; trust me I know my Asimov. Met him once too. Do seek out the story - it's a longer short story (it won in the novelette category)

Could this be disinformation on Wikipedia, as usual?

was the story written by Asminov "Bientennial Man," and I trulywill seek it out. I have the "Positronic Man" in an audiobook form. Ithink during this immensely boring, thong wearing, tushie's out beachvolleyball portion of the Olympics I can get some reading done. As I told Lucille in email, I am growing very tired of frogging everythng I stitch. I think it is time to step away from the needlework! Else, shreds.

If I was making a sculpted fiber art project I could. However, I'm stitching counted cross stitch and layers would't give the effect I'm after.
