OT - My daughter got her doctoral degree!!!!!!

Vicky is finally Dr. Gilpin. She's worked toward this for a few years and was notified today she's officially a PhD. This is in education and she's already planning another masters in english lit or maybe drama/theater.

Now we can all relax and wait for my other daughter to give birth to our first grandson next month, joining their little girl who turns 2 on Friday.

We spent Saturday with Vicky, shopping and having a good time. My husband mentioned how blessed we are to be so involved with the girls, considering their ages and that they are both married.

It's amazing how parenthood goes on and on, far past the age some people think it's over. My girls are 27 and 32 and we're still worrying, stressing and celebrating over every part of their lives. I can remember being about 40 and my mother insisted she carry the eggs we were buying at an egg farm. I guess I wasn't old enought yet!!! Moni

This reminds me of a cartoon I saw once - daughter says to Mom - "You still treat me like a child! I bet you don't even know how old I am!" Mom says "Yes I do. You're 1,543 weeks old."

Congrats to your daughter and your family.

Great news, Moni, and congrats to your daughter!

Relax? Aren't you stitching something for the baby? :)

CONGRATULATIONS!

I go through a time warp between when I get on the plane and when I get off the plane going west-to-east. I leave here a competent 30- or

40-something professional, and arrive there "this many" and incapable of deciding for myself whether I'm cold enough to put on my coat.

Oddly enough, the same time warp does not occur going north-to-south. My aunt treats me like an adult.

Thank you - I'm enjoying every day - I'm crocheting doll clothes for a chubby little toddler doll for Veronica. Vincent is getting a cross stitch sampler/announcement I'm working on. It will have 3 bears on it each in the sports uniform of the Chicago Bears, Cubs and Bulls. I'm also making the bedroom curtains with a lightweight denim and I'm trimming it with basketballs, according to my son-in-laws request.

I still have to finish a quilt for Veronica and then I want to do the Disney Princesses in cross stitch for her walls. I also painted her a picture of the fairy bears that matched her baby bedroom so I guess I'll have to paint something for Vinnie and do a quilt. It will have to be sports themed.

My Dr. daughter has questioned the fact that the little babies have butted in line ahead of her next quilt from Mom. I'm surprising them all and making the next quilt for me!! Moni

My daughters tend to relax into the "I'm the child" when they are here. We laugh that the new Dr. G. can be tracked by her trail of cups and glasses. Now they contain coffee and wine instead of milk. Both girls and their cousin absolutely HATE it when their grandmother, my MIL, talks baby talk to them. Nobody knows why she does it but they cringe. I have that in my mental notes of things not to do.

It is a subtle change when the parents become the child and that happened with my mother during the last 2 years of her life. It started with little things and the last months were totally like having a toddler for me. We still laughed together to the end.

My daughters tease me and say they'll leave it to their husbands to take care of me because the one son-in-law has a nurses aides certificate and the other one is very loving and kind and thoughtful. I guess we should be happy that somebody cares enough to treat us like a child. Moni
