OT: My other life

I know most of you probably aren't into Girl Scouts, but I had to share an article written about me and my co-leaders:

- I *told* them my hobby was needlework, but they didn't put itin.

That was a delight to read. If there were more people like you who really do good things for kids, instead of those that just talk about it, maybe there might be less trouble in the world. Thanks for caring so much.

That is SO cool. DD isn't as interested in scouts as I'd hope she'd be, so those days are fast disappearing... C

Cheryl - she's only 8! How fast are they disappearing - she might be getting old for Brownies - or do they go until 9 or 10 - but you never know

- if she has some friends in school that do something else besides skate you still have years. One of the godkids - 12 now - the least likely we'd have thought - has been doing GScts for 3 years - along with a lot of Karate, and piano lessons. It might happen for your DD.

What fun reading! This quote particularly hit home: "On a camping trip last year, it was the girls who fell right asleep, says troop leader Linda Wright. The adults, on the other hand, stayed up all night chatting about life and giggling at the night sounds echoing outside."

That was *so* us leaders for DD's troop a few years ago (she's now

20). I really *really* miss our camping trips!

Also nice to put a face to a name! :)

My very first thought when they told me it was a girl is that I'd get to be a Girl Scout again.

DD and I went to the Junior Dabbler last night and she loved the Juniors stuff. A lot of it is that she is BORED with Brownies and while she is Miss Active, most of the girls are less so and quite girly.

So - we shall see what next year brings - she wants to try Juniors now. If nothing else, she'll stay registered and go independent with me outside a troop.

We're getting ready to move up to Cadettes - you need any Junior ideas, let me know! And don't forget to look at those sports badges - bet hockey counts towards some of them . . .

I hope so. DS was NOT allowed to count his hockey time toward any Scouting patches. "No violent sports" was the creed of the "advisor" that handled all the sports/fitness badges.

I am relieved she wants to stay in - at least for now...C
