OT: Officially an old nag.

So, I've crossed over. I was walking home from the shop today, and heard a baby crying. Couldn't see the buggy, and couldn't see if there was anybody inside the house who could hear him/her. So I actually went and rang the doorbell! Got the wrong floor first, and had to go ring the other door, where a very happy, smiling young woman opened, and could tell me that baby was crying because he/she had just been put down for a nap. Boy, do I feel silly now! So what's the verdict people; too much, or just erring on the side of caution?

It's an offence here not to do anything if you feel something is going wrong for a child. It is now the law that if you decide not to report anything you feel is wrong, then you are regarded as being part of the abuse.

Better to have been wrong, than not.

I agree totally Lucretia - far too many people do nothing these days because they don't want to get involved. We've got to protect the innocent and each other - far too much crime going on.

Years ago , when we lived for 2 years in Boston, we were in a Huge Mall , we saw a little girl on her own crying , i looked ssaw she was alone and approached her to see if i could help , just as another woman approached her, we both sat by the girl trying to understand if she was lost or hurt. That other woman looked at me and said, i can assume you too aren`t American .... We both found a policeman, who took ua to an office where they announced over loud speakers for the parents of the girl to come and get her ... You did the RIGHT thing , a crying child needs attention ,,,, mirjam .
