When was it ?

I had an email from Ruby yesterday midday and she had undergone her first earthquake. She is down in San Diego with her daughter (a naval wife) about to produce the second grandchild. She said it was bad enough she thought it was a really heavy truck passing by immediately outside but not violent enough to shake things off the wall etc.

Last night off Crescent City in the Pacific. Tsunami warnings are now cancelled. That's northern CA.

How's she doing!

Ruby is fine - although she did say she had forgotten just how active kids are around two lol - and her daughter is having bad back ache so she is wondering if she will go a little sooner.

She can't access the newsgroups from her daughters computer (what sort of computer is that ???) so is feeling a bit cut off. She is not due back here until September.

My daughters boyfriend is lending me a lap top for the trip - must find out if it can access newsgroups! He said it has everything on it etc. so presumably. I will be on dialup unless the motels actually have high speed but that is better than nothing. If it has Outhouse Express loaded, I would presume I can get newsgroups, even if slowly.

Poor Ruby!! I remember when my daughter had the last baby, and #2 was just two years old. I felt as if I needed ten arms and three sets of feet, going in opposing directions!! Added to that, I was known as "The Grandmother from Hell". Mommy was in the hospital, and everytime Steph saw me shw threw a hissy fit!

I have sympathy for Ruby's daughter, though. Two kids under two will be a challenge! Is the daddy on shore duty, or does he deploy, do you know??

Ruby loves kids, she really wanted to do this lol She's great with my grandchildren, better than I. Nicholas once referred to her as Granny's crazy friend because we embarrassed him shouting out things in a horror movie, Eight Legged Freaks he had us attend lol

Wayne is on a Far East tour, but I believe it is only a six month one, he is stationed out of San Diego. He was in Hong Kong recently because Ruby was telling me what he sent from there for the kids. Six months is a bit of a doddle to me, I was used to 18 months/2years at sea. One may not like it, but I think the onus is there to accept it if they were navy when you married or set up with them.

Bill is going down after the baby is born, they know it is a little girl, and will stay for two or three weeks, so that will break the time up too. They are very fond grandparents, hope for them the next posting is somewhere like Norfolk.

There's always Google Groups if you can't access your own, remember. It works in a pinch, although not nearly as handy as regular newsgroup access.

DBF called his sister who's in the area that had the quake. "Hey, I hear you had a quake." "Eh." (Oh, yeah, she's real worked up over it.) It was far enough off-shore that nothing even fell off the shelves.

What concerns him is that there's been a string of quakes -- Chile, Alaska, now this one and its aftershocks -- and the San Andreas is overdue. Will I have oceanfront property when that part of California falls into the ocean?

can get the map or you can get the typed list. If you're looking at the map, see that big empty space in the middle with no quakes and no fault lines? That's where I am. No worries, mon!
