Hi, I'm Kathie from Ohio. To be honest, this is my first newsgroup to join so I'm still trying to figure out the ropes. I belong to several Yahoo groups, but with my internet provider the newsgroup works a little differently.

I have been cross stitching for years but just took it up seriously again 5 years ago. I also made a stop at a needlepoint shop today and I just couldn't leave empty handed. I haven't done needlepoint in years, but hopefully it will be like riding a bicycle. We'll see!

Thanks for letting me introduce myself!

Happy Stitching, Kathie

Be warned. The last time I ended a long "stitching slump", I found myself buying a cross stitch shop! :^)

Hi, Kathie! What corner of Ohio? I'm just outside Kent. I haven't tried needlepoint (I know, all the other stuff I do and I haven't got the nerve for that!) but am thinking about it since I found a couple of really cute Christmas stocking patterns for DD and they are in needlepoint. I have been working one in cross-stitch but think it is a little too old for her so it will become mine.

Yeah, com> Hi, I'm Kathie from Ohio. To be honest, this is my first newsgroup to join

Thank you all for the welcome!

Brenda, I live in Newark, Ohio. From Lucas (near Mansfield) originally, but I've been in Newark for almost 20years now.

My needlepoint purchase yesterday WAS a Stocking canvas! I also bought a book to remind me of all those different stitches you can do. The canvas comes with no directions. I guess you are just supposed to decide what stitches you want to do as you go along. Hmm. Will be interesting if nothing else.

Hi, Kathie from Ohio! I'm Tegan from Missouri, and I have a needlepoint (sorta) question. I just found a charted desing in an old Piecework magazine that I think I'd like to do as cross stitch, but I'm wondering, since it's charted just like a cross stitch chart would be, will there be any .. oh shoot.. can't think of the word I want.. perspective (?) oddities?

And Welcome, this is a wonderful group to learn from! Tegan

Tegan, are you in the northern part of Missouri ? On our oddysey we shall come under the Great Lakes, through Minnesota etc. Would we have too many k to go to meet up with you? We can cross back into Canada sooner or later.

I'm not Tegan, but I live in her general neighborhood. We are in the Kansas City metropolitan area on the western edge of Missouri, bordering Kansas.

When you say "under the Great Lakes," I'm going to assume Chicago and give you a reference point. It's 825.44 km from Chicago to Kansas City. Otherwise, it's 676.37 km from Minneapolis to Kansas City and 886.69 km from Milwaukee to Kansas City.

When my Belgian relatives came here they were quite baffled as to why they couldn't go to Disneyworld (in Florida) AND the Grand Canyon (in Arizona), driving, in the time they had allotted. (We had rented a car and toured Europe, and they thought the idea was so grand they decided to come here and do the same.) In the end, they settled for touring the southwest (including the Grand Canyon) and some of the Rockies. They were astounded by how far they had to drive to get anywhere.

I hope you enjoy your visit here.

I'm not in the far north eastern corner, but yes, I'm in the northern part, just below Saint Joseph. Just how far south are you coming? Unless you are coming as far south as Omaha (and I never thought I'd use south and Omaha in the same sentence!), then yes, sadly, I'm guessing it's too far. When is your trip, though? I'd almost be more than willing to drive a distance to be able to meet you!

I do realize the distances, this is my third cross country drive. Atlas is down in the car so I wasn't sure but figured Missouri was somewhere just south of the Great Lakes. From trip one I have a nice picture of a riverboat on a major river somewhere in Missouri. We did not go very far south as I recall, so it made me wonder.

I would be prepared to go a little out of our way to meet Tegan, and yourself, but maybe not nearly 800k lol

And when I was in England, it never failed to amuse ME when my hostess complained about a two hour drive from her house to Brighton! (could have been more than two hours, because we wandered quite a bit)I'd ask "how far" when I really should have been asking "how long?".. our ideas of a daytrip differ greatly! Tegan

We leave on July 2 and are in Ottawa July 4,5 and 6 (my friend wants to do the things like Houses of Parliament and trusts me to remain silent ) After that, we are playing it by ear, heading to Victoria and then back to Winnipeg and south to Minnesota and along under the Great Lakes. We need to get to Belleville, Ontario, on return trip (she has relatives to visit) but then will come back down into the States to go home, entering back in probably at St.Stephen or Calais, Maine.

You know how much I would like to visit you!

LOL!

I think I could meet you and Tegan (if she's willing) in St. Louis (isn't that a movie or something?) which is about the halfway point between us and Chicago.

It's 471.97 km from Chicago to St. Louis.

I don't know what LNSs are in St. Louis. That could be fun!

Oh true! I went to BYU for college, as did one of my brothers, and it would astound my relatives that we quasi-COMMUTED 2000 miles (3200 km) round trip at least 3-4 times a year.

Once the speed limits hiked up (particularly in Nebraska and Wyoming), it cut the trip from 22 hours to 16 hours. 16 hours is about my work day and it's no different driving--one day there, one day back.

Great to see you Kathy - first of all there`s a mine of information and friendship on here - we often have a few squabbles, but you can just ignore those if you don`t actually want to get involved. Sometimes it`s just too much of a temptation, though!

I think you might have joined us just in time to have caught our latest list of "Who we are", which is something we do every so often for the benefit of newcomers and forgetful folk too! (like me!) I know we have more members from Ohio, but can`t remember who they are at the moment. I`m in the UK.

Rats.. I won't have my current financial crisis solved by then! I'd be more than willing to make the drive, otherwise. I've never been further north than Omaha, and now would be a lovely time to make the trip. Maybe next time? Tegan

Hi from another stitcher in Ohio.

I am in a small town just south of Canton. I have been cross stitching for about 10 years, and want to try needle point one of these days. The stitchers in this newsgroup have really helped me over the years.
