I'm New Here

Hi! I'm new here and have never belonged to a newsgroup before. How do I change the way my name displays? Currently it shows my real name, and I'd like to use my nickname. I would be grateful if someone could help me with that....TIA

Hi Mary Welcome to the group. It's a great bunch.

I can't help with your technical difficulties. I would try unsubscribing and resubscribing with you nickname. I'm sure someone else will have better advice. I haven't seen many questions come up over the last few years that there wasn't someone on this group that new the answer.

You'll also find a huge range of opinions on any topic you want to start. These are just opinions, so don't feel bad if a few don't agree with you.

So, tell us something about yourself, QI's (pets), chocolate preference, quilting styles......

Welcome Mary I'm afraid you wouldn't get far if I tried to help with anything technical with computers! However, I might be able to help with quilty questions sometimes >g< You will definitely get help with your 'name' question, though. There are some real tech. wizards around here. What kind of quilt-making do you enjoy? . In message , Mary Gillette writes

Find something on your menu called "Options", I think it's under the "Extras" pulldown. Then you get a lot of things to play with, including "Sigbatures"! Welcome to the group. Roberta in D

Hi everyone!!! Thank you for such a warm welcome! I am looking forward to getting to know all of you.

The mail program that I use is Thunderbird. I usually go by the name Cornwoman as I'm sure none of you guessed by my signature. lol Any help from you T-Bird users on this would be greatly appreciated.

Info about me....hmmmm...I've been happily married for almost 39 years to my DH, we have 3 grown up kids and 5 grandchildren ranging in age from 7 months old to one that will be 19 years old in March. We live in Mesa, AZ near the foot of the Superstition Mountains.

While I've been sewing for about 46 years, I didn't teach myself to quilt until early 1994, so I've been quilting only about 14 years. My favorite type of quilting? Hand applique and hand piecing, and as of just recently, hand quilting. I do machine stuff too, on my trusty old Bernina 1630 and my new little Brother CS6000i, but hand work is my favorite. I love bright colors, batiks, wool, primitive fabrics and style, choosing fabrics and coming up with the designs I want to do. And most importantly...dark chocolate!! lol I'm not sure what else to say, as I feel like I've gone on and on about myself, but if I've left something out, please feel free to ask.

Now....I know that I saw at least a couple of you in the Phoenix area besides myself....what area of metro Phoenix are you in, and what are your favorite LQS?

Hugs,

I think that I found the place in Thunderbird to change it, so this is a test to see if I've got it now!

Welcome, Mary! I can't help with your question, since there are lots of different ways to read the group, and each one needs different instructions. What kinds of quilts do you like to make? Do you have QIs? What about chocolate?

I obviously should have read the entire thread before replying to your first post!

I was just in Phoenix for a few days this past week, attending a class at Quilting in the Desert! :)

I think you've covered just about everything except the QI question. Do you have any?

I'm not in the area, though I did graduate from ASU years and years ago. But I do love the Bernina Connection, Quiltz and 35th Avenue. Of course, I don't think I've been to any of the others.

Hi Mary, I am on the other side of the Valley from you, in west Phoenix, almost to the Glendale city limits. I use Thunderbird too for the group... On the left side of the Thunderbird page is a list with e-mail, and a lot of sub-headers like inbox, drafts, etc. Local folders and news groups. Click on newsgroups, search (or is it browse??) and use quilting as a subject. RCTQ should come up and you subscribe there. Not sure that makes sense. I worked at the Sewing and Craft show all 3 days, plus set up on Wed. and helped pack up the booth after closing on Sat. I am still exhausted.

Will you be going to the Quilt show in March??

Headers show Thunderbird for Mac.

So far from what I use it would be like trying to explain making cheese in Japanese.

All yours Julia! :)

Sandy, you asked about whether I have QI's, but I'm not sure what that means. UFO's,WIP's....those I know well. lol So if QI's are the same thing, then I have more than I am willing to admit to...and that's not even counting the ones on the queue that I haven't started yet but am desparate to start on. lol

As for LQS, I've not been to any of those. My favorite ones here are The Quilted Apple (used to belong to Laurene Sinema) and The Quilter's Oasis here in Mesa. You'll have to give them a try the next time you come down.

A huge thank you to all of you who helped with my question about changing my name on my message headings! I really appreciated it, and it's now fixed.

Hey, Pati! You do live on the opposite side of town, don't you?? lol

I was supposed to work a half day at the sewing/quilting/craft festival, but we found out that we were getting some out of state guests this weekend, and I couldn't even attend let alone work it. What group were you going to work for there?

Are you with an AQG guild or PAQA? When we lived here the last time, it was in Peoria, and I belonged to PAQA. I just recently joined AQG and the Cholla Quilters Chapter, as PAQA is too far from us now. The quilt show in March is the AQG show, but I can't remember the where and when as I just got my first newsletter. I would love to go, but will have to check my schedule first. How about you?

You've all made me feel at home here. Thank you so much! Now I want to know more about each of you! Please tell!!

Hugs,

Mary in AZ

Hello Mary! I'd just like to say Welcome to the Land of RCTQ. We have fun here, no moderator, no rules. The only thing you really need to know is that it is very wise to have your chocolate vetted. Just send a pound or two to the Office of the Official Chocolate Taster of RCTQ, which is in my Palace here in Virginia. I will test and taste and report back via email. You don't have to thank me ... this is my unselfish volunteer duty in RCTQ. A tough job, but someone's gotta do it. :)
