I'm New Here

QI's are quilt inspectors who usually have 4 legs and like to lay anywhere or everywhere you have fabric.LOL

LOL yes Mary, I am on the other side of town. But not all the way to the other side. I teach at Sun Valley Quilts in Sun City. I belong to both AQG, the Busy Bees Chapter and to PAQA. (I am a past president of PAQA, in fact.) The Quilted Apple just isn't the same shop as it was. sigh. We all really miss Laurene. I haven't made it to Quilter's Oasis yet. But have been to the Quilter's Koop, and Cutting Edge, and (a while back) the Quilter's Ranch. I live about a mile from 35th Ave Sew and Vac, with their wonderful FabricLand section.

The AQG show is in March at ASU West, off Thunderbird, between 43rd and

51st Avenues. It is a ways for you, but close to me. I will be there, and have 4 quilts entered.

BTW, QIs are often 4-footed and furry, although some are 2 footed and have feathers, or are very short.

This is sometimes helpful to understand some of the abbreviations used here.

Mary, QIs are quilt inspectors. They're usually (though not always) four-legged and furry, though they could be two-legged and feathered or no-legged and slithery. My current one is named Dexter; he's a lab-chow mix and the sweetest guy you'd want to know. He's 13 now, though, so I'm starting to dread the inevitable. If you'd like to see him, there's a photo at .

hehehehe......I love typos ;) On a recipe board there was a typo "stuffed egg pants"....this was followed by 30+ posts having nothing to do with cooking. LOL

While that's very kind of you to sacrifice yourself on my chocolate's behalf, I just couldn't let you do it! lol

Thanks for the welcome again everyone...and the link to abbreviations too!

Ok...to answer the question that you all have been waiting for with baited breath....Do I have any QI's? Unfortunately, my QI went to kitty heaven about 13 months ago. We decided not to get any QI's for the time being, though we love both cats and dogs.

How do you all have time to read and answer SO many messages and still get anything else, like quilting, done??? I need to know so my DH will eventually get to eat dinner tonight! lol

I used to belong to PAQA, and for about 7 months ran the BOM program. This was back in the late 90's. Chris Bell was President at least one of those years.

You are right about The Quilted Apple. I miss Laurene too. Quilter's Ranch hasn't been the same since it changed hands and then moved. It's so much smaller than it used to be. I've not been to any of the others that you've mentioned, though I've heard of them. If you decide to come to Mesa to visit "the Oasis", please let me know and I'll meet you there! It's a young shop, about 2 or 3 years old, and the owner and ladies working there are really nice. It gets busier all of the time.

Hmmm...ASU West is very far, so it's not likely that I'll get there. I don't like to drive the freeways so I don't go into Phoenix much unless I'm with someone else.

Feathered QI's would definitely be short!

Dexter is beautiful!! He looks almost exactly like our Buster did! We had him in the mid-70's and want another one like him if we get any more QI's. Thanks for sharing the picture.

Laurene was my first quilting teacher. She was such a gentle soul. She had one of those smiles that came from her heart and always made you feel special. Pati...is "Quiltz" still in business? That is (was?) a great shop! You didn't mention it so I was wondering.

Aw heck! Give the poor man some time!

He will learn to cook something besides instant ramen eventually.

Yes QuiltZ is still in business. But I don't go there any longer. (Sort of long story...... ) It isn't close to me at all. There are over a dozen quilt shops in the Valley at this time, and one is opening soon in Goodyear. we are very lucky to have so many shops.

Pati, where is QuiltZ? I don't think I've heard of that one. You said it was a long story and that you don't go there any longer. Is it a place that would not be a good one to visit, or is it just a personal situation? You're right in that we do have a lot of shops in the greater metro area, which makes us very fortunate.

ROFLOL My DH is a MUCH better cook than I am, but in the past nearly 39 years, he's done very little of it other than bbqing. Occasionally these days he'll come in the kitchen when I'm cooking, if I ask him to help with something.
