I'm new here

Hi everyone, I'm new to this newsgroup and have never done any knitting but want to learn. I found a yarn shop about 25 minutes from me that open up the shop every other Tuesday morning for two hours and teaching people how to knit. It is $2 a session. You have to buy your stuff there though. :) I would like to buy a beginner book. Any favorites????????? Susie in northern NY

Hi Susie, new knitters are always welcome. The " I Taught Myself to Knit" book would be my pick. You would have an at home reference for anything that you missed in class. DA

Hi Susie,

Aren't you lucky to live near a place where you can take knitting lessons. Welcome to this great group and always come back and let us know how the knitting goes and never be afraid to ask a question.

Hi Fairwinner, Thanks for the welcome. Everything so far looks like 'Greek'. LOL, but I know that I will catch on one day. :) Susie

Nora, How far upstate are you? I'm about as far upstate as you can get. LOL. Yes, I am lucky. I found another place that gathers once a month. Not teaching but they gather to knit and they do help each other I guess. That one is only 12 minutes away. I hope to check that one out. Thanks for the welcome and letting me know to be free to ask questions. Susie

Mirjam, You are probably right. I 'should' just buy for each project. Don't things like that "jump" into your cart though once you get interested?????? :o) Susie

Gwen, I wrote down the suggestions and will just give it some time. I have no clue what I'm doing. LOL. Thanks for the welcome, Susie

Welcome Susie, you will get all the help imaginable form this group. As for beginners books, being "way down under" they would all be in centimetres and since you still work in inches in NY I know you will find lots up there God Bless Gwen

(had to jump in on this, grin.... YES, yarn, needles, toys, beads, etc DO just JUMP right into your cart!) Noreen

Noreen, Oh no. You mean just like me being a quilter that thread, fabric, books, magazines, notions and such end up in my cart when I'm "TRYING" to 'grocery' shop???????????? :) Susie

Mirjam, I think I ought to re-think this knitting thing. I don't think my husband would like this. We are PAST that age. :) Susie
