OT - Pampered British dogs... (2025 Update)

Makes sense to me - more than dressing them up like babies etc., anyway! Dogs love being talked to.

Not so a parrot - my daughter leaves the radio on for her African Grey when she`s at work and was puzzled to hear it suddenly making the noice of a Police car siren. She realised that there had been some police programme on the radio that day, when she checked the paper. LOL! They do seem to select the most annoying noises - he also does the phone ringing.

My mother lived in Australia (long story!) and, about 40 years ago, her neighbour was also a Brit who had emigrated and, unlike my mother, was not at all happy. She (her neighbour) had a parrot which looked and sounded SO miserable as it mimicked its owner who, whilst doing the ironing, had a set of ritual moans: "Oh no, not another wet" "I can't stand it any more" "It's SO hot and sticky" "I wish I was back in Blighty"

At least Jane`s parrot is a happy little soul, thank goodness! He seems to understand a lot of what he says, too. For instance he has developed a habit of throwing his waterbowl on the floor and just as he`s thinking of doing it, says "Don`t DO it! Don`t DO it!" (crash/splash) then "NAUGHTY boy, Dudley!" (Jane`s now bought him a heavier bowl, so he can`t). Every time anyone opens the fridge a plaintive little voice says "I want some Icecream!".

No-one`s allowed to swear in front of him - LOL!
