OT: Pennsylvanian killings

I agree completely. I am sure I dont need to say any more; rctners already know my feelings on this subject.

And for it to be the children, and little girls lined up against the blackboard and executed. It defies understanding.

It's no secret how I feel about guns and, of course, it's horrible that children have been killed.

Maybe it's a bad time to bring this up but the Amish aren't the peaceful people they're noted to be. It's a very well known and sad fact that the Amish run a large proportion of the puppy mills in the United States that are known to breed dogs under terrible conditions. They breed the dogs indiscriminately and send sick puppies to a lot of the pet shops. They're always being shut down by authorities, just to open up again in a short time.

I don't think any group of humans could ever be blameless, totally blameless.

I've seen and read things I didn't like about the Amish as well.

But again, as I wrote earlier, to line little girls up in front of a blackboard to execute them -- I still say that defies understanding.

It has been reported that he picked that school specifically because it was easiest to get into. Any non-Amish school would have metal detectors and security people milling about.

Words can't describe my feelings about that. To lose a child is in my mind the absolute worst thing that can happen to a human being and nothing can compare to that.

The shooting is a terrible thing, on our news they painted a picture of a man who was a total fruitcake, so it's not likely we can sort out what he was thinking. He apparently took his own kids to school, then went on to the Amish School.

Why would that be ? The statement was made that set the Amish as being a surprising place for this to happen. It isn't and apart from puppy mills, didn't we have quite a long thread on here a few months ago about how they sell quilts stitched by little third world persons for Amish stitched prices.

Now I am not saying and I would not believe for a moment Lucille was either, that those two things justify anything that happened today, but let's not perpetuate the idea of gentle Amish, quaintly from another era. It isn't so.

Um. Not true about non-Amish schools. I've been googling around trying to a find a source for the statistics that Good Morning America showed, but haven't found what I'm looking for. They asserted that only 6% of schools have metal detectors and less than 50% of schools have full-time security people.

I know from personal experience that any school that my childlren attended (starting in 1993 through today), could be easily entered by anyone.

Second, I wouldn't buy a puppy from a pet shop because of this problem.

Funny, seems like a YMMV issue because I know I couldn't get 5 steps past the lobby with out being challenged in any of the local schools. And there is police officer full time at both the high school and the middle school and maybe even the north most elementary school.

One, I said I wouldn't buy from a pet shop and would only buy from a breeder.

Two, I have more sympathy than you could imagine for the horror of losing these little, innocent kids.

Feeling horror about the terrible murders of the children doesn't change my sadness at the fact that the Amish aren't as innocent as people think they are or my belief that no one should own a gun
