One dog per person under the seat, so unless it's Jere, her DH and one other person, that only takes care of two of the Dachsies. The larger dog could fly in cargo if there is space available. It's a pressurized cargo hold and there's only room for one or two dogs per flight. So yes, the dogs can fly with you, but four is a bit much to deal with.

Also, there can only be one pet **per row** in the cabin of an airplane! If you can get two pets into one carrier then you can do that but that's the only way you can get two pets to sit in your row. It's expensive too. I think the last time I wanted to take Mikey Fat Cat to Lizard Land with me, it was going to cost something like $125! When we moved to Magnoliaville, we were going to take the two wimpiest kitties in the cabin with us and the airline said that would be OK but we would have to sit in different rows. As a result, we only took the really wimpy kitty in the cabin and the other two kitties and the dog had to ride steerage! Back then it cost about $75 to take a pet in the cabin with you compared to about $40 each for the babies who had to travel steerage. There's not much space under those seats for a pet carrier either!! I have found that it's much easier to sit in the center seat because there's more room under the seat in front of you for the pet carrier. Mikey Fat Cat had her own Sherpa brand carrier. Poor kitty and the carrier would be all squished under that seat! Once the flight got started, I would periodically take the carrier out and keep it on my lap so that I could talk to Mikey. I would even sneak the top open just a bit and give her a scritch on the head and that kept her fairly calm. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Four is a bit much to deal with, even at home.

I've been wondering how much xanax I can give them during the hurricane winds, but have decided we probably all need to be alert. We live not too terribly far from the Red River, and have wondered what would happen if the river levees should fail. I'm trying to picture getting a golden retriver up the attic stairs.

CNN just announced that rising water has already washed over the levee in New Orleans. Such sad news. Lucille

And the news about the evacuating bus burning on I-45 just outside of Dallas -- so very sad. So many tragedies, so many to come.

My brother did finally decide to leave League City. It took him 16 hours to drive a normal 5 hour trip. He said there are abandoned cars everywhere. The gas trucks come along to refill stranded people and if the car still won't go they push them off the sides of the road. I don't know what they do with the people, but I'm sure they get them to high ground somewhere. A bus has also exploded near Dallas coming from Houston. This is a mess....

If you can still get in touch with him, tell him to get into a windowless room, maybe a bathroom or closet, and have a mattress ready to pull over his head. Heavy duty shoes on. Having a sledgehammer and lifejacket at hand would possibly help if he has to break out and be engulfed. A hard hat could also be a lifesaver if a beam falls. Even the smallest debris moving at 140 mph could be your end.

Andrew Ground Zero Survivor.....and evacuee from many other Florida 'canes,
