OT: Snow in the UK.

This is really addressed to Pat P. but others might be interested as well. I get some of my news from the BBC web site, and I gather you have had a fair amount of snow in East Anglia. How is it going? We had 10 inches about a week ago, and everything was back to normal in about 12 hours; unfortunately the worst of the snow came during the morning rush hour, which makes it difficult for the ploughs to operate efficiently. But then we *know* we are going to get snow, so it is worthwhile spending lots of money on snow clearing equipment.

Well, Jim, we must have had a whole centimetre of it last night/this morning! Enough to get on the news and tell us how "difficult" it was driving! We`re right on the coast and the sea`s not all that cold, really, so we don`t usually get much. Not sure how much they got further inland - all of TWO centimetres, perhaps! Kent, as usual got rather more than we did, and we`re all just below freezing, but really it hasn`t amounted to all that much. The snow fences that were along our main road out of town for years haven`t been put up for several years now - but then, they were a bit like "elephant dust" - never had PROPER snow since they put them up!!! Twenty years ago, when we were in Bucklesham (a small village about five miles away) we were snowed in with nine ft drifts, and the time we should have gone to our grandson`s passing-out parade three years ago, it was bad enough to stop us going. It took our son 7 hours to take what is normally a

2 1/2 hour journey.

But then you know what the news is like - a leaf on the line is enough to stop the trains! Thanks for asking, but it all seems to have been an anti-climax so far. I just had a look outside and the roof of the bird table is white, and there`s a patch on the ground, but so far that`s it! They promise more tonight, but I`ll believe that when I see it. You don`t know how much I miss a REAL snowfall!!!

Mind you, I hope it DOES hold off tomorrow, as Rosemary Peeler who`s over here from Australia to see her sister in Ipswich is coming to see us in the afternoon! She phoned last night and is really feeling the cold!

This reminds me of when my parents drove to New Orleans from Alberta the time before last. They were staying in the French Quarter with their parking lot across the street. They saw a man taking a leak at the front of the vehicle and checking it out at the same time, so to have a little fun, they used their command start to start the engine remotely. They said the guy looked as though he had just seen a ghost. =) I can just imagine!

Now try explaining to someone why you have a plug in at the front of your car!

Addie - wishing we had some snow but not complaining about the above-zero temperatures...

Heated sidewalks?! Where did you go to school? Even in cold, snowy Minnesota, I know of no colleges with heated sidewalks (much to my dismay)!

Nor in North Dakota. In fact, I was just thinking one day last week what a great idea heated sidewalks and streets would be. Probably unfeasible (think of the electice bill for the city!), but a great idea! :)

And where it is really cold, you can add a battery blanket. In November we had a visitor in Regina from Lichfield, just in time for our first major snowstorm and minus 30 weather. He had wondered previously why the person driving him around the province had the brush and scraper in the car. We asked him about the plugs, and he admitted he had wondered if we were all mad environmentalists with electric cars. Dawne.

And By the way ,, End of March i open a Curated by me exhibition, where thar artists [fiberists, painters, sculptureres and more ] show a combined exhibition ... This time i also present New artists with already famous ones .. Which adds another falvour to the show..... But As i wrote ,, You really are welcome .... What I really like about seeing/studying other people's creations, is learning things about who they are as individuals that normally are words unspoken. Since all art/creativity comes from the heart and mind and not from the mouth, it's a truer window to their soul than even the most personal things they'd tell you about themself. It's a communication that crosses all language or cultural barriers.

You are Welcome to study my artworks any time , [ but not with food in your hands ,,, don`t gasp , it had happened , or with smoking in the room ,,, happened as well !!!] I tottally agree with you that studying the artworks teaches us more about th artists than many a word ,,, But i would be careful in saying that it crossses , all culture bounderies ,,,, I have symmbols i put in my art and symbols i would never want to see , there are symbols that i don`t understand , or don`t know all the culural background they Carry with them !!! I am an Artwork reader ,, is great fun,,, Lately in Belgium i went with somebody to an exhibition ,,,, she said i had no art knowledge, since i looked at all the artworks , without consulting the Catalog first !!! I told her that i will read the catslog at later at home !!! I want the artwork itself to talk to me , the suroundings it was put in etc,,, mirjam

I don't know of any schools with heated sidewalks either. Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo (Iowa) does have a system of tunnels for public use connecting most buildings. The tunnels stay in the mid-50 degree range all year and they are wide enough for the maintenance and security people to zip through them in golf carts without running over pedestrians.
