Hi Guys, I never got a chance to tell y'all what a great time I had in NYC! At about 5:30AM on the day we left, I got a call from DD telling me that a dear family friend was in hospital hooked up to machines because he had had a stroke. I had DH make reservations for me to go to Lizard Land on Friday after we returned. We got home LATE on Wednesday, I unpacked and did laundry on Thursday and the repacked and took off for PHX on Friday 29 January!!! Anyway, back to NYC. We arrived about 5:00PM and took a cab into the city. The hotel -- Mariott Marquis was right smack in the midst of Times Square ANd -- even mo'bettah -- our room looked right out onto Broadway! I got to see a lot of neat stuff that evening as we walked around and went to dinner at some fancy schmancy restaurant that served the most delicious rib eye steak starting at $40 a la cart 8-Q. The Pres. of the company bought dinner for everyone (there were 5 of us) and the men all had the steak -- I had a salad -- LOLOL! I caught the red, double decker GrayLine bus first thing Wednesday morning -- at about 10:00AM -- and spent the next 7 hours riding around Manhattan. I went up to the 80something floor of the Empire State Bldg. and took bunches of photos from all directions. I went to Ground Zero and took a few photos of the construction going on there. I got photos of the lovely church nearby -- is St. Peter's the name? Could be St. Paul or St. Patrick -- starts with a "P". I also got off at Battery Park and got some great shots of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. I got to drive up and down Madison Avenue, a bit of Wall Street, Park Avenue AND Tiffany's!!. I also got to see the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, United Nations Plaza, Rockefeller Center and loads of other neat stuff. I truly enjoyed the trip and the "quickie" tour. If I had another day, I would have done a harbour cruise and gone to see The Statue and Ellis Island. I *might* have gotten off the bus and walked along Park AVenue to look in the shop windows but since I could barely afford to breathe inside those shops, I wouldn't buy anything -- LOLOL! I was sorry I didn't have time to take any of the other Loop Tours -- I would like to have seen more of Central park and Uptown. I told DH that I would still like to go back at Christmas so that I could see the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center. We would just have to make sure we budgeted for the cost of the room -- at $385 per night
-- AAACCCKKKKK!!!!!!! I will tell him that when he travels from now on, he needs to stay at a Mariott so that he can get enough points to pay for at least one night :-). Anywhooooo -- I still highly recommend taking a GrayLine Tour whenever you are either pressed for time or have a ton of time. If you have a lot of time, taking the tour gives you a nice overview of the area and it lets you decide which things you would really like to go back to see. Also, all of the tours I have taken have been for TWO days of use so you really do get your money's worth. I had a wonderful time and it was just as I had imagined the trip would be. Long enough for me to "see" the things I was interested in and I didn't have to deal with the crowds and noise and traffic that I truly abhor! CiaoMeow >^;;^<
