What is it about a $400 "toy" that turns normally intelligent and pleasant people into raving idiots?
Microsoft decided not to send out enough of the darn things. Immediate shortage ensued. Our store got 18, but took in close to 100 preorders.
All day idiots walked past the "Sold Out" sign to ask if we had any, when we were getting more (we don't know, Microsoft hasn't said yet), and didn't like the fact that all of ours would be going to those who preordered.
The poor people who preordered and didn't get one, those people were justifiably upset. I felt bad for them, but I didn't need them screaming at me over it. Not my fault, I didn't arrange this shortage. I didn't take one for myself and bump a customer off the list (as I was accused of several times). I will not own one myself for at least a year or two, when the price comes down A LOT! Our store is more than willing to refund deposits, and we offer apologies and as much sympathy over what happened as possible (blaming Microsoft mostly).
One person who called the day before to find out he was in the 2nd shipment was especially nasty on the phone to me, but later called back to apologize. However, the next day he called the corporate customer service number and told a variety of lies about the conversation. I had a long phone call with my District Mgr (the man who is supposed to let me know today if I get a promotion!) telling whatI remembered from the call. I know I never told this man he'd been bumped, and wouldn't get his until MAY! Course, he also claimed the person on the phone was named Stephanie.
People can truly suck.
