New Toy!

I got a new digital camera for my birthday on Friday!!!

UH OH! Like I need even more encouragement to scrapbook! The old one I had never worked right, I could never get the lighting to look good. This one is sooo nice (Cannon) and they gave me a large memory card too.

We even went on a day trip, took a hike, and the 3 of us, (myself and my folks) all played with our cameras...

My mom is a photographer, and for years she resisted digital photography, but now she loves it and was a great resource for learning all the bells and whistles.

My poor cats are feeling camera shy now too, after having been chased around all day yesterday. :)

Fun fun!!

Probably. I found when I left film that I was shooting everything in sight. For me in the early stages it meant a lot of junk and I do mean junk I went back and looked at a lot of it a couple months ago and couldn't figure out for the life of me what I was thinking.

However, I also discovered that along the way it helped make my photos today much better. Instead of 10 of 300 images being great it is more like 200 of

300 are great.

I have also found that the images that I spent a lot of time on trying to get just right are the ones I like the least. The ones I took just for the heck of it or the ones I never expected to turn out well turned out the best.

And, then I started looking at things from a scrapbook perspective and found many that while not great photographs could be altered with Photoshop filters and such to make great papers, brushes, etc.

So my recommendation is to shoot like mad. It really helps if you have a camera you just love. I have a Panasonic FZ-30 it is 8MP with a 12X optical zoom lens and optical image stabilization and I have never had a camera I have had more fun with. Also, if I drop the resolution to 3MP I get 19.1X optical zoom. I love the zoom.

If you would like to take a look at some of my photos I have a gallery up at

Happy Birthday Jessica! Wow you are so lucky! I have heard Cannon is one of the best! I have a older panasonic 3.1 and it is fine for taking pic of items but not good for taking pics of people. Their facial feactures just are not clear. Well have fun with your new toy! Happy scrappin, Michelle P.

I haven't hear of the picasa site yet. How many pictures can you store on there. Thanks.

Congrats! I love my digital wonder! I'm on my second now, having worn the first one completely out and I think they take the best pictures ever!

Without the cost of film and developing, you can take all the pictures you want.

With your crazy schedule it's no wonder! And, as you can tell, I am pretty spoiled as it is. :)

Thanks! And a belated happy B-day to you!

It isn't a site. It is a Windows program (no Mac sorry folk, yell at Google if you want it) that you download and install that catalogs your images. It supports most major formats including an ever growing number of RAW formats. It has image editing like straightening an image, adjusting color and exposure, sharpening, etc. It also has a couple of collage features that allows you to select many images and then arrange them in grids or pile them up like Polaroid's on a table. It works with Google's Hello service, you can print, you can create gift CDs that besides including the selected photos includes a copy of Picasa for the gift CD receiver and more.

Well the advantage I have is that I have always had free processing at my disposal - my mom owns a lab. Hoeweve, now I need to go learn how to use the digital printing machines! And then I can print what ever I want! Hehehehehe!

That would be so sweet to be able to print whatever at a lab for free. You are so lucky. It gets expensive printing pictures. I would much rather do it in a lab than at home. The quality is so much better.
