I'm so sorry. It was cold here, but, whatever. Every year since we got Nessie (the Expedition) I've said we have to get a sheepskin seat cover 'cause it's so cold in winter and that truck takes a very long time to heat up. Ah well, sorry for you!

Yesterday may have been nice, there's a wind today so add wind chill factor to the -20C.

It is currently -10 in Londonderry! I emailed Sheena and am hoping she's not frozen to her key board

It's 8 F here right now according to accuweather station a mile away, but it's more like 0 at the house, and about -15 with the wind. Definitely chilly. A balmy 63 in the house (heat is just coming up from the overnight

I think that means that I'll stitch in the family room by the fireplace, as opposed to downstairs where it's colder. We actually kept our gas bill down somewhat (to somewher areoun $250 IIRC) this year as compared to $400 last - by keeping the house colder longer. Letting the sunlight help heat inside, of course, and keeping it 66 during the day, set at 68 (really 67) when we're both home, then were using 62 at night, now down to 60. Our heating guy told us just to be sure not to have it stage back up (or down when on AC) by more than 4 degrees. Evidently that does some stress thing to the system, and will ramp up the energy usage - so it takes a while to get the house warm in the morning. I try to get this started about 30 min before DH has to hit the showers - all I can say - thank goodness for the towel warmer!

It was -26 last night, -21 this morning and IT'S GOING TO GET ABOVE ZERO TODAY!!!!!! Wahooo! Everyone, this cold snap has finally come to an end...the predicted high for Sunday is 30 and mid 20s for most of next week. Heat wave! If it does get up to 30, I don't have to wear my down coat.

Dawne, how are things up there? You should have some of it already...

Unfortunately, you Easterners will have a few more days coming, but it's *coming to an end* YIPPEEEE!!!!!!!

And those of you in the south, don't think she's joking about eyelashes freezing shut! The last couple of days I've had to try melt the ice off the horse's eyelashes.

More than likely those numbers will be small. Animals are truly pretty hardy things. Mother Nature gives them many ways to survive. Even at 20 degrees, there will still be areas with open water and food supply will still be available, so they just eat more. Sure, there will be a few that won't make it but they are going to be the weaker ones. Survival of the fittest, remember!

It was supposed to be warmer this weekend, but now it says snow on Sun, Monday - temps in the 20s.

Poor things. Are they stabled - I'm assuming - or out with lean-to and winter blanket? I guess a fly bonnet wouldn't help?

I think the problem those who don't get this weather is the clothing thing - they don't have heavy coats, and probably have a hard time finding good layering. Or just don't get it. Plus, those whove been in mild climates for a while get acclimatized, and the cold just bothers them more. My parents would make us crazy just visiting in October - when we don't run the heat - but for them 60 F was time for coats! Not watching us run around in shorts at times. And they'd grown up in NY, but the more recent 20 years in South Florida had definitely changed their cold tolerance.

It would have to go below -50C before I would forgo a game of bridge lol Back now and as I said, brass monkey weather, due to last the weekend then come up and snow.

Well, that's an addiction! One thing I miss from exDH, was playing bridge. Our next door neighbors (who were like surrogate parents without the guilt) played also, so we were always traipsing back and forth - whose house tonight? I got hooked in uni - the guys at my frat house were serious bridge hounds, and all the poor pledges had to learn. I refuse to be nasty about it, and ended up having a steady stream of the guys to play with 'cause I wouldn't be abusive. But, the really good ones, in a totally dork world, actually went to the NCAA bridge championships - who'd have thought it. Then in grad school - we had some amzing series of crazy bridge games going. One crew of grad students with offices in the basement - made for a really interesting set. My German officemate became partners with one of the Indian guys, and they invented their own language of bizarro-world precision bidding. Made life hard - they would just misspeak English - instead af "1 Spade" it would be "! Spades" and that would mean something. Very crazy. Frequently leading to people threatening Wolfgang's existence.

Alas, my wonderful DH doesn't play- though, he does play pinochle and canasta. I'm working on him!
