OTIT will be COLD here

Jan 15, 2009 81 Replies

They are calling for freezing temps here for the rest of the week, in the 20s on Saturday morning.Ordinarily, this is no problem, turn over and go to sleep.

However Thurs, Fri and Sat are the Annual Neighborhood Yard Sales. Usually 80-90 houses have stuff out.

I have to be up and out around 7-7.30 am and I will freeze my ass off. I ALWAYS wear shorts, and the thought of jeans, socks and jacket just slays me.

Sympathy please....come on Joan, I can hear it LOLOL

Gillian

Sympathy?!?!? It is -3 right now and supposed to go down to -16 later tonight, with a wind chill of -37. But it's going to all the way up to -8 tomorrow with lots of sunshine! And Sunday in the 30's!! Just the thing for shorts and skimpy tees.

I would be weeping copious tears for you, but it is -50C here tonight, and my eyelashes would freeze shut. Dawne, wearing jeans, socks, jacket, parka, mitts, scarf and a determined expression

I think you should move to Sydney where we are having a heat wave, yesterday was 42° celsius which is 107.6° fahrenheit. Today was 44° c.

Up here you get the sympathy AFTER the butt falls off. LOL

I've just come from my shop wearing a T-shirt, a light sweater impregnated with sawdust and jeans to get a cup of Java, -48º with the wind chill. I'm not too happy with the cold either but there aren't too many mosquitoes at the moment which is nice.

Ahh Sydney has the weather we've had for the last 2 weeks. Perth will be at least 40° celsius (104f) tomorrow so there is more heat coming across the country...........

You're not going to get any from me.

It is 6F here now, minus 10 predicted for tomorrow. And I HAVE to leave the house today.

Enjoy the cold ;-0.Your live longer. ;-) I live in North Carolina near the coast and these little homes are not made for the cold weather . I was hoping for snow on Tues my Birthday. But no luck ;-( The temp is 35*F and feels like 20*F this morning, tonight hopefully it will be above 18*F. (don't have a clue why I am up this early out of a nice warm water bed). If my cat could sleep near the flames in our fireplace, I think he would jump in. Yesterday while taking the clothes out of the dryer. He jumped in and wanted to go to sleep on the remaining items left in the dryer. I think he wants to go further south for the winter. Today I am making bread, enjoying coffee and cross stitches. All enjoy your garage sales. 100* days are not for me either Best to all. Barbara

Our cat always jumps into the clothes dryer as soon as Maureen has emptied it. We've discovered that the best way to get her out is to ignore her, if we try to encourage her to leave she just settles down and glares at us but if we ignore her she strolls into the kitchen with an indignant expression on her face. As to the flames in the fireplace - when we had German Shepherds and a gas fire we often had to shout at the dogs to move away from the fire because their fur was smouldering!

Can't miss a yard sale, can we Gill? :-)) Today it is a balmy MINUS

22 with a windchill of MINUS 32 celsius. How do you like them apples Girl? :-))

Sharon (N.B.)

All I can say that those birds better be happy that I froze my toes filling the feeder.

When I got an email offering a voucher for a free showing of Defiance, I hopped in the car to grab one. The voucher said to come early as seating will be first come/first served. I called the theater to find out if I could redeem the voucher to get the tickets earlier and was told the voucher was the ticket. When we heard the forecast (low teens C), my daughter and I decided to forego the freebie because neither one of us wanted to wait online in the cold. Even frugal me has limits!!!!!!!

OK - sympathy. You sound like my niece - native of Boca who is now in her

3rd year of law school at Syracuse - and didn't understand why she needed more than one pair of boots, a jacket (rain proof) besides her big down coat, long underwear (more than 1 set), slippers for her apt (which included heat that she thought she could ramp up to 78 - hah), and - yes, dear - you'll have to wear long pants and the little tiny chanel slipper flats won't do for the snow.

Poor dear. It is only about 20 F here, but with wind, so more like 5 F, and I did finally convince DH to put the lining back in his shell, and he actually wore a scarf & gloves. Men are idiots at times - and I hate when he comes in from hockey in the no socks, sandals, t-shirt - just running. We actually finally had some snow - looks like a lovely powder sugar yard!

Ellice

Wowee! Boy are you looking for it. I have only the greatest admiration for your courage under fire.

Oops!!! I have to go now and turn up the TV. The sound of all the laughter is drowning out all sound. ;)) RD&H

Ah, Fred - you give credence to the men are idiots saying. OTOH, I new I'd totally reverted to my Yankee roots (after growing up in S FLA) when I found myself regularly going out for the paper in shorts, flip-flops, a tee-shirt

- through the snow. All too often. Now, I really like when I can drive the Audi 'cause it has seat heaters, and I can have the car really cool, not wear a jacket, and just use the seat heaters to tool around when it's cold out. Unfortunately, I'm usually driving the big, cold, leather seat Expedition - and have to wear a coat or freeze.

Ellice

I have already been out, it's not nice, very sunny but hateful. I didn't catch sight of any brass monkeys !

But, but, but...................You LIKE cold weather!!! You are always telling us how if you could sell your place you'd be off for the frozen north in a heartbeat!!!

Olwyn Mary in New Orleans.

Yes, but at least you have a car, right? I'm at work, looking at walking home depending on when DH has his eye appointment.
