Ouch: OT

Well ouch is what I meant to say, some how a few other colorful words filled the air.

The nerves in my left thumb have started to settle down so that I can grasp something between my thumb and index digit without going into orbit and then yesterday.....

I picked up a fairly long board that had a few nails sticking in or out of it. I threw it in the general direction of the scrap bin. Instead of going into the bin it bounced back and one of the nails went through my right arm just behind the wrist. Pulled the board and nail off arm - more colorful words like gosh darn it!

The nail was about 2 inches long and very rusty so it was off to a medical clinic for a tetanus shot, some anti-biotics and a cooling off period! The swelling is directly proportional to my disposition.

At the moment I am not a happy camper, stitcher or cabinet maker!!

Ouch, big ouch. So sorry to hear of your mishap. Hoping it will heal well, and quickly. Ummm, take long walks or something to use up that cabinetmaking-stitching energy!

That is what I call Pure Prairie Wisdom at it's finest and you are 100% correct. If someone had told me to throw the piece of wood I would not have done it - throwing a tantrum maybe but not a piece of wood with nails in it.

As my DW said, "Youshudov knew better." Right!! Youshudov knows this, Youshudov knows that and Youshudov done it different!! Yadda, Yadda Yadda. Well the fact of the matter is that Youshudov gets on my nerves so much that I often fire him 5 or 6 times a day but my DW always settles him down with some cookies and coffee and sends him back to work. I used to think they were having an affair but Youshudov can quite often be a real dunce and I doubt that my DW would put up with that for too long.

When stupidity reins I will take a clean cut anyday. A rusty nail full of them tiny little bacterialumni guys and my DNA have never gotten along too well. Looks like I got lucky this time.

Bud Wiser came over to help me today and I'm felling 75% better. There doesn't appear to be any infection and the swelling is going down dispite the fact NO cookies have been showing up in my mail box!! Maybe the mail is a bit slow or I don't sulk enough!

VBS -- I know that but just think about it. Which part of your brain were you using when you did that? It certainly wasn't the part in your head but most likely the one in your nether regions. AS for the missing cookies, what type of cookies does your good friend Bud Weiser prefer? Perchance the kind with the funny twisted shape and salt all over the top would be best. And where was Casey (I must apologize -- I'm not sure this is the new doggies name -- BAD Tia) during all of this? You should have let him lick the boo-boo -- dog spit has magical healing powers, ya know!! (((Fred))) I'm glad that you are doing better and the puncture (did it let any of your hot air out?) is healing properly. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

SPOILSPORT!!! I know, I know but I didn't say dog spit was *clean* just that it has magical healing properties!! We still tell the SMDGD that dog spit has magical healing properties. It makes her laugh, especially when she can turn around and tell us the dog just got done licking her butt so how could her spit be clean :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

And I thought DD's injury was bizarrely self inflicted.

Feel better soon and next time, put in in the bin, not throw it in the bin

Knowing dogs and their odd behaviors, I always hate getting face licks. I don't mind it is someplace I can wash easily...

Interesting thoughts! I would suspect that a few moments after a dog has cleaned himself up that any salvia containing bacteria has gone down the hatch. The bacteria that builds up on the teeth (read tarter) is another matter. Any dog bite deeper than 1/4" is a real concern because bacteria from the teeth get deposited way down in a very nice incubator and infection starts almost immediately. Plus it is very hard (sometimes painful) to apply pressure to the bite area to cause enough bleeding to flush the bacteria out of the puncture, plus the blood clots quicker near the skin surface trapping the little gremlins in.

Been there done that!

Having said that I have allowed a dog to lick a very bad scrape I once got on my leg. All the blood and dirt particles were gone in a few minutes. I washed the area off with mild soap and water (no bandages) and everything was just fine in a couple of days. No scaring what-so-ever. Was a h..... of a lot faster than a trip to ER.

My conclusion was that the rough part of the dog's tongue cleaned up the scrape, not the saliva. Anyone who has had a dog lick an area of it's own hide down through a couple of layers of skin can attest to the fact that a dog's tongue may seem smooth it can be just like sandpaper.

Gotta take Casey to the vet for his monthly social visit tomorrow so I will check. Retractions may be in order.

When my son was small, he had a badly infected bite from another child at the creche. The doctor said human bites are far more likely to be infectious than dog bites!
