Re: Did you know....

With your AARP card, you get 10% off at Michaels on Tuesdays

Great, what does the AARP cost you per month? More or less than the savings at a store or hotel?

I am of the age but don't belong - my AAA membership is all we beed for discounts for traveling and museums. And it actually does something for me - like when I got the flat in a driving rainstorm.

I know Cheryl does AAA - which we dropped as it's quite expensive in this area. Towing of only 2 miles can be useless, so it's almost a necessity to do the AAA plus, and our auto insurance covers that for about 1/4 (or less of the cost). Discount wise, they're essentially the same - but we actually get the same or better using DH's work group, and some others. However, I think that we're going to join AARP eventually.

It's not a rip-off organization for profit - indeed because of the group insurance policies that they offer there was some scuffling with someone in Congress wanting them to lose non-profit status, which went away.

We joined AARP just to get the dental insurance a couple of years ago. When we switched employers, we lost dental coverage, and our dentist only did PPO level (Delta). I couldn't get PPO as an individual, but found that AARP had Delta Dental PPO coverage available, and not too expensive. Fortunately, new employer has dental, so we were able to drop it. So I'm interested to hear about all these other discounts. I'll have to explore the AARP page to see if there's a listing.

Karen, is the Michael's one good even after using the 40% discount coupon? I don't buy much of anything at Michael's without a coupon, except for floss and the $1 bin items.
