That reminds me of when I was in 7th or 8th grade and a house was built next to ours. We were told that a naval commander had bought the house and his family would be moving in soon, while "dad" was doing sea duty for 6 months. By the time he got back, we had made friends with the family and he was forever known in the neighborhood as: "Mr. Cora Lee". :-)))) He liked it that way and even 10 years later, when my mom and two of my sisters and I went back to Virginia to visit them, he was still "Mr Cora Lee". Somehow, Commander Cora Lee would have seemed pretentious. :-)))))

As an aside, My little sister and I both took our husband's name when we married, while our two older sisters kept their maiden names because both were RNs and it was just too much trouble to change. Our oldest sister would use her married name for school stuff but her maiden name for everything else. Also, the various female veterinarians I worked with all kept their maiden names at work, but if they were calling the school or making a non professional appointment for some reason, would tend to use their married name.
