You see an offer of Tupperware as a public service announcement?!? Wow. Does this company have you brainwashed or something? I totally agree with Elizabeth on the advertisement thing.

OTOH I found it to be a public service - at least to me. I NEED some more of this stuff. First of all, most of mine is 30 years old. Some of it has been lost by children, some destroyed by persons unspecified putting it in the bottom rack, rather than the top, of the dishwasher. Worst of all, after Hurricane Katrina, when we decided we needed to evacuate after all, I gave most of my home-frozen foods to younger, fitter neighbors who were staying.

Rubbermaid is no longer, apparently forced out of business by WalMart. I did find a few freezer containers in a local hardware store, made in the USA by Hefty, but have not been able to find more. All I can find is those cheap, throwaway things by Glad. I tried freezing in them, but when I took them out of the freezer they shattered.

I still cook most things in four or six servings, even though there are only two of us, and I freeze the rest in meal-size portions. It gives me more time to work with textiles. I do not want to contact Tupperware direct, as I have no desire to be pressured into holding parties or becoming a dealer - I have enough on my plate, thank you.

So, you see, in my particular case, the message was indeed a service.

I didn't know Rubbermaid was gone! I just bought three of their big cereal containers before Christmas, when I re-organized my cupboards. When did that happen?

I'm glad to report that I just googled Rubbermaid to see if indeed they were gone and to paraphrase Mark Twain, it seems if the report of their demise is true, they don't yet know it. :^))

Here's the link to their website:

Yes because it is rctn. Tupperware really has nothing to do with stitching so it becomes an ad. Yes, you may store your stuff in it, but most would use Glad containers at best for that.

If it quacks like an ad, it's an Ad "Big Tupperware Sale (Modular Mates)" - whatever they are - and NO - I don't wish to know as the Subject Header says Ad and Spam.

I will say that the Rubbermaid stuff is harder to find here than it had been. And the "gladware" bites.

I agree, and I had the same experience with a frozen Gladware container cracking when it hit the tile floor, but I'm glad to see that Rubbermaid is still available. My supermarket still has a whole display.

Just to be different, I have had no problem with the Gladware, Zip or whatever. Most of my Tupperware is not nukeable so sits on the shelf lonely.

I should have pointed out that the Gladware I was talking about is the disposable one.

I recently bought some other plastic containers in Bed Bath & Beyond that I like even better. The lid goes on much easier because it has four sides that click down for a sealtight closure. Much easier then struggling to get the lids on after they've been dishwashed a couple of times.

A friend of mine bought them originally from QVC.

I find that they are not gone, they just merged with Newell. However, I followed Lucille's link, and found that all the sizes I might want - all the small ones, that is - are noted "not available on line". So, if my local shops don't stock them, I cannot buy them.

Oh well, back to Tupperware. Yes, they are expensive, but if the new ones last 30 years like my existing ones did, they are well worth the money.

I buy the disposable Gladware, and am happy with it. After being frozen=20 a time or two, it gets trashed. However it is great for all the=20 leftovers I have in the frig; I cook all our meals, and always have=20 extras, so we have sm=F6rg=E5sbord night at least once a week. They are a= lso=20 good for the odd nuts, bolts and misc stuff. I stick to one brand, so=20 the lids are interchangeable, and at that cheap price I don't feel bad=20 tossing them out when they are cracked, stained or whatever.

Yup. Once you provided that website from which you expect to have personal gain, you made it an ad rather than a public service announcement. Including the website in your .sig file might have been ok, except that your .sig file is egregiously long already.

IPods are popular. I am not offering them for sale here as a public service announcement. Not that I have any to sell. Tangenital connection - some of us music and audio books and podcasts to stitch by, but I still don't want to see it here. Just because something is popular doesn't make it okay. It's still advertising.

I agree with you on this one, Donna.

I have no REAL major problem with designers saying "I have this out in my new catalogue" etc. That is On-topic oriented.

However Tupperware just doesn't belong here, at least as I am concerned. Anymore than gardening supplies, scrapbooking stuff etc.

Just my 10 cents( I allowed for a lot of monetary fluctuation here LOL

I agree, too. If she wasn't a seller of Tupperware, I'd cut her more slack. But since she IS a seller, trying to pass it off as a "public service announcement" is just ridiculous. It's clearly self promotion.

So you announced a sale on Tuppeware here so that no one would be angry with you?

See how well that worked...

I think it's apparent to all who read and post here that we don't like ads. Information is available elsewhere and we can find it if we want to find it.

Aack, Sheena & I agreeing - how scary ;^p

But, if you'd just said - "Anyone interested in tupperware - see note on RCTNM" that would've been fine. But, you were definitely advertising for people to contact you to purchase, and that's clearly an ad. While informative - that's a commercial thing not a public service - as you no doubt know but don't want to admit. It certainly seems you were looking for buisness. Great that it helped Olwyn Mary, but don't pretend it wasn't an ad for your Tupperware sale - that's pretty undignified.

Mostly when people post about coupons at JoAnns - it's usually letting us know about some S.E.X. Or directing them to check it out.

I have great stuff called "snapware" that I got at COSTCO - it's some Euro stuff, I think - and is great in the pantry (more rectangular kind of shapes, and stacks well). The lids have a sort of O-ring that compresses for a seal, and they hold very well, and freeze just fine.

The glad ware isn't meant to be long-term, but that said, I've had some for at least 3 years, and it's done pretty well cycling from freezer to micro, etc.
