I've been yearning after one of the Victoria Sampler Heirloom Stitching charts but have been holding off because it's very pricey with the silks and accessories. I know it would be much more beautiful using the suggested silks, BUT----------- I just like the look of these pieces and really don't have any special place to put them and just want it because it looks like fun to do.
Does the chart have any kind of alternate listing, e.g. using DMC instead of the silks?
It might not have alternates, but I have changed colors and fibers on a few of those charts without too much difficulty. On the other hand, have you priced the VS accessory packs? That still doesn't make it super cheap, but they do tend to be cheaper than purchasing entire skeins/cards/spools of each fiber and full packages of the beads or other accessories. Which one are you thinking of doing?
I do enjoy stitching those charts, but part of the fun is the nice fibers, at least for me ;-)
It's the 10th in the series, Call VS Heirloom Stitching. The chart is only $17+ but the accessory pack is listed at $86+. I'm not sure if I'm prepared to spend over $100 for something I don't really have a place for.
Thanks for printing the list for me. I did find it on an e-bay site and printed it out. I've been looking it over and it seems to me that I could probably substitute colors and/or flosses (es??) that I already have, or find similar colors in DMC or Anchor or leftovers that I keep. I'm a packrat when it comes to floss and I tend to keep anything more then a few strands. Most of those odds and ends aren't marked but if the color is right, who cares.
I'm going to order the chart and most probably put it away for the future, but the project does look like something I need to own.
Her charts definitely list what all the materials are. Darn it, Lucille - I just sent you a package! All the VS charts are on sale at where I used to work, and there are a ton of them. Plus, I can see if she is discounting the accessory pack (besides there's always me buying it....).
But, that said, her packs, as Linda said, only have enough for that piece - they're not skimpy, but you won't have a bunch of extra. For people that don't use silks regularly, it's a good way to go. But, if you use them on other things, then it's an economy of scale thing - buy the skeins and you'll have more for stash, other pieces. She often includes Trebizond silk, or silk perle - but, again - if you really want this - it could be gotten for you. LMK off-line - either Donna or I have access.
I do like her pieces, well, some of them. They're never as large as they look on the chart - IMHO. She has followers that are very dedicated, and others - like me - who feel like having done a couple of her pieces is good (though I do have 1 more in stash to do).
I just ordered the chart because I decided I need a present for myself, but I don't think I'll order the accessory pack now. I've been indulging in all sorts of little luxuries, not one of which was anything I needed, for the past month or so and have finally decided that it's time to scale back and pay for all the things I've ordered and received.
If and when I want to do the VS piece in the future I'll worry about the necessary items, but right now I think it makes more sense to pay my bills.
Does that mean you have sent the "care" packages to us newbies who don't know very much about canvas work???? My LNS ia praying I get hooked because she has a lot of stuff for it. I told her the trial came first, and then the judgment.
