silk ribbon grub stitch roses

I have searched high and low on this silk ribbon stitch. My reference books had nothing and neither did the library (useless as usual in my hometown) It seems in Australia they are bullion stitches.

Does anyone have a reference for this stitch? and done in ribbon?

Thanks

Nancy

They are a staple of The Victoria Sampler, though I've only noticed them done in floss, not ribbon.

These stitches are in the Donna Koolers Encyclopedia of Needlework (page 138). It is a bullion knot and the book says it is also known by ther names such as Caterpillar, Worm, Coil, Knot, Post, Grub Potro Rico Rose stitch. HTH Marie and the cats

OOO -- how pretty and I can see it done in ribbon, especially one of the variegated or over-dyed ones. You'd have to be *very* careful not to get the ribbon pulled too tightly but ti would look stunning IMNSHO :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<
