I have a fairly nice floor stand which I would like to use more. However, my hoop keeps slipping out! It's in correctly, in the groove for it, and I tighten sufficiently. Any suggestions on how to keep it in place?

Try getting some of that soft textured (open weaved) shelf liner and cutting a piece to go between your frame and the hoop. This works really well.
The liner is cheap & the rolls are good sized! I get it at the local dollar stores.

Any grip-py thing will work. I've used one of those floppy, no-slip round bottle opener helpers. I've also used a bit of the stuff that you can put under a rug.
Two things, though... one, make sure that the piece you're using isn't much larger than the area that is being clamped on.
The other, more important... make *sure* it's not touching your fabric. I get a piece of muslin usually, and put it over my work, but in the hoop... and the little bit of the rubbery stuff that rests on the hoop area stays on the muslin, so there's no chace of damaging the work fabric.
