Using Whisper

Quick Question... I'm making a santa ornament for a friend and I'm using whisper for the first time.... How long of a section do I cut to stitch? When I cut one my normal length, it lost it's fuzziness. Just wondering if there's a "standard" I should be following for fuzzy thread. Thanks in Advance, EG

Definitely do not use your normal length, which I'm guessing is 16"-18". Somewhere between 7-11" depending. I use about 7-8" lengths, some people use longer - but you can't really stitch the last couple of inches if you use the longer length.

Also, you might want to use a slightly larger needle than normal - the bigger eye will help, and also it will open the hole in the fabric a bit more so that the thread doesn't abrade as much going thru.

Use 10-12 inch lengths - then after you're done stitching, take a piece of velcro and fuzz it up - it doesn't hurt it at all - and makes it good and fuzzy which is what it should be.

That's about the length I use. Also, if it starts to lose it's fuzziness towards the end of the length, I'm not above burying the loose end and stitching the final few stitches with the double strand. It ends up look just the same because you need the doubled fiber to get the fuzziness to be the same as the beginning of the length. Now, I don't make a practice of this -- just when I want to eke out that last stitch or two to finish off a section. You might have found this out but DO NOT brush up the fuzz until you are completely finished with the piece and it's been laundered and dried and pressed if needed. Wisper washes up beautifully and you can press over top of it carefully. I added a bit to the underside of The Firehouse Angel's wings and had no trouble with it at all. Also you can brush it more vigorously than you would think. You don't have to be daintily gentle with it. Don't go a it like you are scrubbing the kitchen sink but do give it a good brushing. I hadn't thought about using a piece of the hook end of velcro to brush up the fuzz!!! I have a Bunka brush I use but it always seems to be buried in the cupboard and hiding! I'll have to remember the velcro tip! Thanks for that Sharon :-))! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I'm using a larger needle than usual (I like 28's), I think I'm using a

24 (or maybe that's 26s and I'm using a 24). I'll try that length & I had already planned to use an old soft toothbrush to fuzz it up after it's finished and turned into an ornament.

Thanks everyone! EG

Well, I'll let ya'll know when I get done. I've completed about 20 stitches and so far I'm liking it -- EG

And if it doesn't work next time, remember I can be bribed to stitch that section for you. I *like* specialty fibers.
