Compact Afghan Crochet

Hello, i have recently pondered an idea for a nice project i would like to do. However, in order for this project to look nice, i would need to use size 20 or 30 thread and a corresponding 1.25mm(or so) hook. trouble is, i'll be using afghan stitch. i haven't seen any afghan hooks this small out there, and that's fine and all, as long as there's something out there i can make do. a lot of hooks are a lot "fatter" than their corresponding stitch size, and that obviously doesn't work for what i'm doing. another reason i cant use a standard hook is that darn thumb-flattened-spot... if it weren't for that... grr... anyways, does anyone have any ideas on how i can pull this off ? if so, i'd greatly appreciate hearing them ! thanks in advance.

Do you know anyone who could go shopping in Spain? A friend of mine managed, after much insisting, to buy Spanish hook-ended knitting needles, which are just like afghan hooks but come in a very thin size; the ones she got are 2.0mm and they do have a cap on the blunt end. (She had to insist because the clerk kept trying to sell her standard crochet hooks.) I don't know if they come as small as 1.25mm.

Try a crotat hook. I have used it on 20 and 30

thank you much for the idea... i hadn't even thought of that ! i've looked at double-ended and circular stuff in the past, but the smallest that comes in is 4mm, typically, but i haven't looked at this yet, so thanks ! :-]

2mm is plenty good, and i've got some family in the military, so this might just be doable ! THANKS !#!#!##!#!#!##! *giddy*

You could try a bamboo crochet hook in the appropriate size, they don't have thumb rests so would do for Tunisian crochet. You'd need a stopper of some kind, maybe a knitting needle point protector HTH Love & higs Christine
