Looooong crochet hook

Mar 12, 2006 6 Replies

I am new here, to find the answer for a friend who loves to crochet. What she wants to do is, using the afghan stitch, to make an afghan as one large panel. Is there a manufacturer who makes a very, very long hook for such a project? Is there some intrinsic problem that would make it un-doable?

Thanks in advance. If we can't find one, she may end up carving one from wood! LOL

Again, thanks!

Hi Deb,

Susan Bates makes the quicksilver which comes in 10 and 14 inches long. They are easy to use.

Hi, Deb, and first... WELCOME! :) Boye makes afghan hooks that are flexible, and they'll hold a LOT of stitches. The hook end is just like a regular afghan hook, the flexible part would put one in mind of a circular needle (knitting), and there's a nice big 'stopper' on the end. HTH, Noreen

Welcome DEB , There are long crochet hooks meant to make Afgahn or as they are also called Tunisian crochet works . mirjam

The standard aero afghan hook can take in excess of 200 stitches. I have made several one panel afghans. One from a hard covered book that had a worked in butterfly (as opposed to cross-stitched on after). several of my own design for high number anniversaries. The only problem was when you put them down you had to be careful not to have stitches slid off.

I am so sorry! I thought I had thanked everyone who helped me, but apparently, it just went to one of you. I would like to thank every one of you who had an idea for my friend. This seems like a nice place...think I may hang around a bit!
