Oh Dear -- don't let those nasty words cross your lips!! Especially since you aren't from anywhere near the US of A so don't have to be subjected to the vile concoction that was developed as a substitute (perish the thought) for good, solid, upstanding mayonnaise :-)! F.Y.I. -- we usually alleviate the summer doldrums with a brisk round of Mayo Wars and then move on to Pepsi V. Coke -- PEPSI RULES!!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Please enlighten me why don`t you `dress` your slad with Some pepper [red white black], a bit of salt, [sometimes a grain of sugar] juice of a half squeezed lemon and a good dash of olive oil ???

I've never in my life put Miracle Whip on a salad, despite its being called salad dressing. That's more a name to me than a use in the case of that product. But I'd much rather have a vinaigrette on my salad than lemon. The salad dressing section in most US grocery stores is quite extensive. Tastes are many and varied. Here's one manufacturer's site:

Easy answer: Salt is the only one of those items I regularly have on hand. In fact I've never bought lemons or olive oil in my life. Of course I also do not put dressing on my salad. If there is meat on the salad, I'll dip the pieces of meat in honey mustard but eat the rest of the salad plain.

Karen a Salad is a fresh and natural part of our daily food , why would anyone add a manufactured `anything` to it ???? If you preffer vinegar use it , but adding sll kinds of things with preservatives or food coloring ,,, makes me shiver . mirjam

It's not used (AFAIK) as a dressing for the lettuce type of salad, but for things like potato salad, macaroni salad, tuna salad, etc.

Because it tastes good, Mirjam. Why else?

Then don't think about it. I eat what I like. You eat what you like. Everybody's happy.

I love a bit of tripe with salt and vinegar on it. It seems impossible to get around here anymore. As for beating up my own mayo. Heart bypass and 6 stents in heart prevent that ,also severe cramp when holding whisk for a long time. I was brought up between 9 farms and the killing of a pig was a village entertainment on a Sunday morning. Nothing wasted but the squeal. I used to make my own pork pies and sausages. Makes my mouth water just thinking about tripe with salt & vinegar. If I was ill I was given tripe & onions simmered in milk, not quite as tasty but very healthy (I am told).

I don't use Mayo on a salad. It's mostly for sandwiches or for making egg and potato salad and things like that.

My favorite dressing for a salad is olive oil and either wine or balsamic vinegar.

Well, you do stitch beautifully and are lunatic enough to voluntarily do beads and metallics so you are quite useful in a number of areas :-)! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Hello Jessie

Thanks for your reply. The problem with this idea is getting the wool dyed. I was thinking of just using the conversion tables for Appletons to DMC - very straight forward. Can you imagine trying to dye Bubba's fleece 10 shades of mustard yellow! Impossible!

Anyway, I think I will use DMC. I can hang larger pieces. Or put them on the floor and not allow anyone to walk on them. That should solve the problem of longevity ;-)

Many thanks

Rachel
