My mother would have thrown them at me, after she smacked me with them.
There is Stitch In Time in Reno...haven't been there personally. Plese email me before your trip kytravelrn at gmail dot com. I want to come to Sacramento and meet you...if you have time.
I will even treat you to lunch..or dinner...or whatever meal is at that time. ( I will leave all "weaponry" stash at home...so you need not fear me.)
Or you can just wait and we can meet at my trial....LOL
just me, Cathy from KY in CA
Sadly, the GS never did do a "powder puff derby"...
CCathy,
I haven't been to Stitch in Time in Reno for several years, but it was a nice shop when I did visit. We would spend some time each summer in North Lake Tahoe (Incline Village), and I'd always make at least one trip to Stitch in Time.
If you have any time on your trip, Incline Village is only 45 - 60 minutes from Reno. Stitch in Time is at the end of town you would travel to get to the Mt. Rose highway to Incline Village. Incline is one of my most favorite places in the world!!!!
There are a couple of shops in Portland -
Acorns and Threads
In Stitches
Hope this helps.

We wore white bucks in marching band back in the day. There were bottles of white shoe polish being passed around all over the band bus.
I hated those shoes.
Sara
We all hated those shoes, but being teenagers everyone wore them anyway.
For me the only difference was that because I was always a little contrary, I had a pair that looked like penny loafers rather then the lace up oxfords.

Acorns and Threads in Portland is a nice shop. Not that anyone on this newsgroup would be caught with nothing to do, but be sure to bring PLENTY to do on the train!!!!!!! I hear that the train between north & south is notorious for being slow and way behind schedule. It would be great if you could go through the Shasta area in daylight because it is so beautiful but, as I recall, it goes through at night when it will be too dark to enjoy it. If it stops in Klamath Falls while you're awake, don't bother getting off! One of our guild members was told many years ago when she asked about a needlework shop over there: "Oh, honey, nobody does THAT anymore"!!!!! That's one major reason that she moved to the Medford area instead of over in Klamath Falls. :-))

AFAIK, the *only* corridor where Amtrak owns the track is the Baltimore/DC corridor, and they rent track everywhere else.
I think the biggest difference between the Midwest and the Mountain West is that sidings are closer together in the Midwest, so a passenger train doesn't have to wait as long for the freight train to go past.

Waxing the end of a thread makes it easier to thread the needle -- wax stiffens the thread and keeps the fibers from bushing out.
