We Need Needlework Posts

LOL - I already sent the link to the boss. We're looking into getting some, as we've been questing for some "new" crewel. We have the Barani "Tapis Tree" stuff, and it's taken a long time to sell most of it. And, plenty of "crewel work company" - which is expensive. A few Custom House designs, which are more modestly priced, some traditional, some very kitcheny. But, we'll see - we're going to contact the designer, and see what the costs really are - we both like the designs.

We were getting some silk ribbon stuff from South Africa, but it became way too expensive, so we've ended up with the books, designs, but using ribbon from more local suppliers.

Ditto.

The trouble is, so much that would appeal to me is so bloody large! I'd love to do crewel bedcurtains, slippers, screens, but one can only stitch so much.

There is an old house here built late 1800s and the lady of the house did crewel curtains in the 1920s - very lovely. She also covered occasional chairs with crewel which I would not have thought that practical but they have stood the test of time.

I have just the spot for a crewel screen, I should think about that !

True, but I find that it goes quickly in comparison with counted work.

That is why it is relaxing I believe, plus if you are sitting chatting you can do both without putting a stitch wrong, you only need a visual check.

I expect it depends on the design as well. Some crewel pieces are quite open. Some others, not.

Screens are probably worthwhile doing though, because (based on my experience in working in import stores) it is difficult to find an interesting one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Dora

Some lovely designs. I am thinking Dora's idea of a crewel screen would be lovely, some of these butterflies and a few flowers would work well and look good. One could increase the size of the butterfly as it neared the bottom of the screen and some flowers. Then they would appear to be alighting.
