What Happend to Who's Stitching What?

I see the morons have taken over the group once again. I was so interested in hearing what everyone was working on, now that subject has disappeared. C'mon back.

I finally finished DM's pillow top. I will never do bullions again. Also finished the border of an Xmas ornament from last Xmas. Satin stitch on 32 ct. Now to figure out what's next. Don't want to get the "vacation" projects done before we leave.

BTW....are you folks in the Maritimes ready for Bill? DM would like to be in Acadia NOW for the surf that's likely to hit New England.

I don't know about morons - advice on seeing better is always welcome.

But is anyone else seeing odd spam.

I always love anything Christmas and like to do an ornament for the grandkids each year. We're getting ready for *Bill* - I don't think we'll get it as bad as dear Sheena, but we'll get a good dose of rain and high wind I'm sure. If it takes away this horrible humidity we've had all summer, I might welcome *him* with open arms. :-)

I'm thinking of dropping both piece I've been rotating and picking up something little to work on. I have a snowflake kit around someplace I could do. Thanks for the good idea.

Cheryl Who saw lots of rain last night, some more today and more due yet tonight and tomorrow and Monday

I'm still desperately trying to finish a wedding present in time for the pot luck BBQ next Saturday! It has a quote from Anais Nin ("And the time came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was less painful than the risk it took to blossom") with a climbing rose trellis on each side and a set of blooming roses along the top. I "lost" two days of stitching at the end of this week after a friend of DH called to tell us on Thursday afternoon that he was watching firemen take his house apart! The upstairs three attic bedrooms are pretty much a complete loss due to flames and heat and the downstairs is soggy and smokey. There are lots of ways that it could have been worse - it happened on his first day home after the three days out of town due to his job, many people called 911, two knocked on his door to make sure he got out and it is dry right now and no thunderstorms are expected. That's good since there is a sizeable hole in the roof. We have the dog and parrot living with us since our female dog is one of the few who gets along with their female dog. To get back to stitching, I hope to be done by tonight and take it somewhere for framing input tomorrow. I'll have to frame it myself to make sure I can deliver it by Saturday evening but I'd still like input and maybe get a matt cut for it so I know how large a piece of foam core to use.

Next I have to think of something quick and easy to make for my Harry & David friends this season. :-)) Liz from Humbug

Sorry to hear about your friend. And I do hope you get your picture finished in time.

I always try quick and easy and I find small projects harder to do then larger ones even though I always say no more large projects. I made a stitched baby picture frame and it drove me crazy. I also tried small Christmas weekend daydreams. I finished 2 out of 4. I don't understand why I have such a hard time doing small projects.

Not stitching it yet, but I just got the terrific orange and yellow checked fabric I special ordered a while back, and the sampler threads (raspberry, purple, lime....) to stitch Monsterbubbles Follow your Truth. And I found the Jane Austen sampler chart from Margaret & Margaret that had been in the back of my mind for a while--it has the quote from Mr. Darcy about what a women needs to be considered accomplished. Revived a Dimensions kit I had put aside--gorgeous butterfly on a parchment coloured ground with Chinese characters. The pattern includes a Chinese coin--I think I'll attached a real one. But what I really want to do is embroider something retro on a tea towel.

I'm happy dancing because I *finally* finished "And a Forest Grew" - not in time for this year's state fair, but there'll be another next year. I took it to the LNS on Saturday for framing.

The last few bits 'n' bobs took FOREVER and the more I worked on it, the more elusive the final stitch became. That's because of the umpteen birds that each needed one stitch for an eye, then one stitch for a beak, then two stitches on tiny trees for trunks, etc. A hundred instances of refer to chart, find appropriate color floss, thread needle, one stitch, bury threads, snip, repeat. Ay, yay, yay!

I changed the verses and am quite please with the result. I'll try to get a photo to post when I get it back from the framer.

And, of course, since I finished that on Friday night, I had nothing lined up to take to the LNS for stitchin night on Saturday, so I kitted up *three* smaller projects to start! And bought two more charts while there....it never ends, does it?

Now back to a crochet project that has to be finished in two weeks. But when it's 90+ degrees and 100% humidity, the last thing I want is a blanket on my lap! Even if it is a cotton blend baby blanket!

Thanks. They are doing OK, under the circumstances. He is going out of town today for work, as usual, and I suspect she will work today through Wednesday and then will both take time off again on Thursday to figure out what is what. The first person they spoke to on Thursday afternoon asked if they couldn't just stay in the house so he could meet with them on Monday afternoon. I DON'T THINK SO!!! They finally met with an "alternate" adjuster on Friday afternoon and then another was going to drive up from Bakersfield (about a 9 hour drive) yesterday after having heard from the first that it is, indeed, major damage. They have also been meeting with "public adjusters" and restoration contractors, all of whom hope to make 10 to 20 % of the insurance pay-out by "being on their side". :-)))

I DID manage to rescue a needlework project stitched by their daughter 5 or so years ago when she was a teenager. I noticed it last week when DH and I were at the house for some reason and then saw on Saturday that it was hanging on its side but still on the wall. It was on the stairway wall on the bottom end of the stairs so I asked Deanna if I could take it home with me to fix it. The restorers with her (for an estimate) said it wasn't necessary and that they "'did that kind of work all the time" but she told me to go ahead and take it. I'm so glad I did! ! ! ! It smells slightly of smoke and, when I removed it from the frame (and glass), one area of the mat was already showing water damage. If "we" had waited until everyone decided what to do and which company was going to do it, the piece would have already been permeated by smoke and moisture. It isn't a major piece, just the words about cleaning and scrubbing waiting until tomorrow while babies are growing up, but I know they already definitely lost a Family Quilt and I didn't want them to lose something I knew my EGA chapter could rescue. :-))))) It has been airing out in the house since then and I plan to Orvus it and then rinse and rinse and rinse. It's not a major piece of needlework art but it's one less family treasure that they'll need to throw out.

My wedding present is FINISHED, except for the signing and dating and framing. :-))))) Now I can look forward to that roasted pig on Saturday night and not have to worry about needing to take the gift back to finish it. :-))))) Oh, I goofed on the quoted. It really says: And the time came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was MORE painful than the risk it took to blossom. I think I had it backwards last time. :-)) At least I stitched it correctly! :-) Liz from Humbug

I re-figured out how to do some tatting and did a butterfly, dragonfly and ladybug (gee, Cheryl, do you tat?) You might have noticed my other post asking about how to hide the ends. I obviously haven't yet figured it *all* out! Lol

I keep wanting to teach myself tatting - results look a lot like doing fine crochet.

I'll have to let you know!!! The blocks are fairly big. I fell in love with the picture in the book; I don't often care about finding the exact cloth and thread the designer used, but this one I had to have. Here's a look at it :

Congrats! Wow, that's a huge piece and it's inspirational that you've finished already. State fair - what about Woodlawn or Montpelier???

Looking forward to seeing that. Then I'll get to ask about...ummm...coraggio or something like that ;^)

Some excuse. But you deserve a reward. I've been thinking of what to take with me to seminar for my "studio time" day - which is kind of study hall with a teacher to give you assistance as you like - but for stitching. I'm thinking of taking a painted canvas purse that I haven't started - it's all different kinds of bugs - bees, dragonflies, etc - very brilliant on white canvas with satin brocade ribbon trim already on the canvas. And I'll only ave time to stitch on my 2 class projects while there, so ....But, who knows.

Metal hook? Does that help? It's been so muggy of late I couldn't stand the thought of knitting anything.

Well, so proud of you, Sue, another great finish.
