A new french potter !

Hello everybody,

I'm used to read your messages for 5 or 6 years on this newsgroup whitch is wonderfull. But I still never wrote anything.

2004 is a very important year for me because I begin, officialy, my activities of ceramics. So, tonight, I decide to introduce myself to you.

I hope you'll excuse my bad english : I only spent one year in the USA (a little bit more than ten years ago, in San Francisco that I love forever, as much as the entire California ; unfortunately, I just had some stop over in New York, but I'll fly to NY as soon as possible : it seems to be a great, great place ; it doesn't seem, I'm sure it is! Like many other places in your very very large country.).

I introduce myself : I'm a french ceramist. I'm used to work with earhtenware and porcelain, but my passion is The Stoneware. My style is not at all modern, I like to turn or shape "neo-classical" pieces. I like details, but not what everybody makes (in France).

You can discover some of my products on my site :

Tell me what you think about it.

I'll come back soon to participate to your group which is fantastic (we have a (one!) good group in France, but there are not as many potters in France than in the USA, of course ! So, if I post an e-mail, I dont have a response before... one week, at least !)

See you soon.

Hi Remi!

Bienvenu!

I am (a Norwegian) in Switzerland and quite new to the group as well. I am a total amateur at pottery, but learning a LOT already from these lovely and informative people.

I like your stoneware shapes and I like how varied your decorations are in both shapes, colors and amount of the piece covered.

Have fun!

Marianne

Hi Remi I am a New Zealand Potter, I don't have any pictures of my work handy. My son is supposed to be making a web site for me. You will find that there are potters from all over the world on this newsgroup. At times it is very quiet and at times it gets more active. For instance the question, is pottery art or craft? My personal belief is - both :o) A lot of technical information is shared here and many questions from beginners. I like your work, it looks well made. Annemarie

Hallo Remi (don't know how to get the accent on your name) Welcome to the group! This is not a USA newsgroup, this is worldwide, as you have seen from the two postings before mine. Yes, most of the participants are from the USA, but certainly not all of them, many are from UK, and some from all over the world. I for one am from Austria ( i don't have to explain the difference between Austria and Australia to you! ;-) I live close to Vienna.

I think it is great that you have ONE group in France, I have not yet found a german speaking pottery group.

As far as i can tell, your english is perfect, but then, i am a foreigner, what do i know!

I really like your work! And the home page!

Greetings from Vienna, Monika

Hello,

Thank you for your answers Marianne, Annemarie and Monika, it's very kind to you. I appreciate that you like my shapes, because in France, many people congratulate me for my drawings : I'm happy when somebody likes my decorations, but I enjoy still more when people feel into themselves the contact with my potteries, as a blind person could do : the shape is to me something universal, not the drawing ; even if I'm pleased to create very precised drawing, like middle-age "enluminures" (I don't remember the translation : when there's gold in a painting of the 12ve century, for example).

Monika, I know the difference between Austria and Australia ;) ! I've been to Atersee, Nordsee, the Tyrol, etc. I enjoyed this area very much ! It's magnificient, and people are very nice. Just a shame : I've never been to Vienna... But when I'll had sold so many potteries that I'll stop to count, I'll go to Vienna ! Or may be I'll have the chance to participate to an exhibition.

Concerning switzerland, it's the same (I still don't know Norway), I love these countries : so clean... Unfortunately, France is so durty...

And New Zealand : some place as I dream to spend some years : when I was in California, I met a person from this coutry who told me a lot about it ; and I think that it's one of the most beautifull place in the world : see and mountains... What could I ask more ?!

Thanks to you and see you soon.

Rémi (don't look for my accent, it's a french item !)

I wish many of our students who have been in this country for quite awhile used English this well.... I wish I used English this well..... (Many of us that excel at puzzle solving don't seem to do well verbally is my excuse). Classic must be coming back into style... your style reminds me very much of what I would call modern. Very nice in any case. Hope to see more.

I used to live in the USA for 20 years or so, so English is my second language.

I sometimes wonder if it is modern, when you look at what some potters make these days, i think my things are rather oldfashioned, classic maybe... Very nice in any case. Hope to see more.

thanks! yes, i should put some new pictures on the page, most of what's on there is long gone. Have to talk to my kids about it, i wouldn't know how to put them there ;-)
