Hi
Can I have kiln wash on both sides of my shelves? There are several glaze drips and chipped areas on the washed side. I would like to use the damaged side for bisque and the freshly washed side for glaze firing.

[No, don't do that. Kiln wash is intended to flake off, but you don't want it flaking into your glazes from the underside of a shelf. Get a cold chisel, a hammer, and good goggles, and carefully chip off the glaze drips. Don't worry about the chipped areas; they'll eventually fill in with kiln wash.]Andrew Werby

Exactly what I was going to say. In a group I belong to (thank goodness I have my own studio) someone had decided that was a good idea, then loaded the kiln and wrecked lots of other peoples work with bits of kiln washing dropping into the glazed pots. She were not popular and we had to scrape and clean off all the wash. (she was elderly and it was too much for her) Clean the shelf as Andrew suggested. Annemarie
