Your bird orchard sounds like the cherry tree behind our house. We have only once in all the years that tree has been there gotten any cherries from it.

Bert really does sound pretty cute!

I think I was in about third or fourth grade when Sesame Street started. When I was sick at home, my mom would turn on PBS for part of the morning, and then switch it over to channel 11 (CHCH from Ontario). I liked watching the reruns of Robin Hood and The Last of the Mohicans (with Lon Chaney Jr as Chingachook!). But sometimes when my fever was high Canadian TV could be a bit of a boggle. I remember one day my fever was very high and my mom had all but been pouring Tempra syrup down my throat. This was back when Tempra syrup still had alcohol in it. So I had a fever of 104 plus and was slightly alcohol impaired. I made it through Tales From the Riverbank mostly sane, but the The Hilarious House of Frightenstein came next and I was more than a bit goofy by the time it ended. Then they reran Tales From the Riverbank, in french. By the end of that my brain was toast. I seem to recall repeating "Faites attention!" over and over while laughing my head off.

NightMist it was probably said by the hamster to the guinea pig as regards his driving.

I think I may have gotten the eyebrows just a bit exuberant - but my Bert has been easily identified by the local 2 year-old so I'm sure I got close enough. She liked the chenille Cookie Monster better - just no accounting for taste. Polly

Thank you so much, Cheryl, for showing off Bert for me. I had one heck of a time getting him to be still and quiet in the scanner. I don't aim for Baltimore Album elegance with crib quilt applique, much more along the lines of tough and sturdy. Good thing we won't know what he looks like after he's been fed a nice bite of cheese grits. Polly

We're not admitting anything if DH asks why one of his socks is now topless. Bert had to have a turtle neck sweater and it was the easiest way I could think of. Polly

Howdy!

Cool! I'd know him anywhere! 3 pigeons just perched on the windowsill to get a better look. Oh, yeah, Pol, you got him, perfect; that lone eyebrow is totally Bert.

He could pass for Howard Sprague.

Our first son had a pair of Bert-Ernie slippers as a toddler; he called them BertErndie & loved those little shoes. He left them on the porch, soaking wet, after he watered the front flower beds, and the next morning BertErndie were gone. All we found were a few parts, an ear, a nose, part of an eyebrow -- we forgot to tell those boys it's a tuff world outside of Sesame Street. They were replaced by a fat, fluffy Cookie Monster.
