A quilt appreciater is born...

Mark and I went to the fabric shop in Broughty Ferry on Saturday. It had quilting fabric, notions, garment fabric, fleece and beads.... and is about the size of my living room. Nevermind, quality, not quantity.

He was impressed by the variety of things, and like a magpie siezed onto the metallic thread because "it's so shiny..." I was trying to do the Quilter's Rorschach test on him: "Which fabric do you like? What colours speak to you? What do you see in this print?...." I had absolutely no luck on that score until he spotted a Laural Burch fabric, a print on royal blue, with metallic outlines. Well at least he has good taste. That FQ came home with us, and we're now planning a quilt with those fabrics. He is very excited and likes colour matching, and has lots of ideas for applique, and piecing, and quilting...

It is good to have those around you appreciate your hobby/art isn't it?

Sometimes a different pair of eyes looking from a new angle helps enormously.

What fun Jo! Can't wait to see what you and Mark come up with. (Oh and btw, I heartily approve of any fabric that is royal blue with metallic outlines. Mark does indeed have good taste. :-)

Congrats! Enjoy it!

My DH has been a constant companion to quilt shows and such for a long time now. We just got back from a trip to Florida to see the DGD and he very happily stopped at the quilt shop in DeLand - which we found out had moved! The GPS took us to the former site but DH stopped a parking lot cop and asked him. That's how we found out it moved! Had a great time there, a very nice shop and the most friendly staff!

I often ask his opinion on fabric choices for quilts and he does have a good eye for color. He also gets really interested in all the quilting machines that are at the quilt shows. I keep dropping hints and he shows a real interest so you never know!

However, we were playing "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" game on the train ride home and I had gotten to the million dollar question. I thought I knew the answer but he was very convincing that his answer was correct. Wrong! From now on, I'll keep him focused on quilting machines!
