Alice W.

I got a msg. from Alice W. that she is in fact alive and well. She has been doing a lot of traveling and is headed out on a train trip across country and back. After that she says she will be back to posting. Sounds like she is peeking in and reading occasionally. Hi Alice : )

Are there any other folks that are just reading and not posting that are willing to sort of check in so we know you are still out there and ok?

Alive and well in Alberta, Canada House renovations, hunting for new house, growing home business, 16 kids, 25 grandkids .... for some reason I'm not getting much sewing time in! :) Seems everytime I find the sewing room, someone comes to stay, or another reno gets started and my sewing room becomes storage space again. Currently putting laminate in the living room. I do read the posts pretty much every morning with coffee, but don't have much to say that is relevant to quilting these days. Sure do drool over all the completed projects that some of you are getting done.

Hugs to all Marilyn in Alberta, Canada

I am here, been working my fanny off at my real job (after years of looking. Unfortunately, no benefits, but at least I have a job!). I also have been laid up a lot with a really painful back. The much needed relaxation has been really handy today as I have been able to rel Harry Potter.

I'm here! I just don't seem to have anything to post about, nor much time to do anything but skim down through the posts when I can. Doing ok. No major health problems or anything like that, thankfully. I do send out my good vibes and [[[[[[[hugs]]]]]]] for those that are having health issues.

With remodeling two rooms this summer & having a family of 5 staying with me, I have been posting just minimally! The two rooms still need finishing up work, some new furniture and then all the stuff put back. =20

And now that the Harry Potter book is in hand, I'l be fitting in reading time, too - in fact, it's moved to the top of the list LOL

I'm in and out. We have figured that the easiest way to describe what is going on in the house right now is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and

*ALL* of us are dealing with it differently. I feel like we are "deprogramming" our children like one would do after rescuing someone from a cult or something. We are retraining them and trying to gently remind them that disrespectful attitude and behavior is NOT acceptable in our house. It's rough some days and not so rough on others....we have a few days shy of a month to get things back to normal, so....

anyway, that is where I am. Yesterday was the first day I even had the desire to sew anything!! And it still isn't finished (knit shirt for myself). We are also trying to get the fmaily room finished. 3 walls painted (1 needs a second coat) and trim up around the doors. I still have to prime and paint the 4th wall and the stairwell....hopefully before school starts. Once school starts, I will be working on getting the trim in DSs room finished...

so that's why I'm in and out these days.

Still here, still reading, still drooling over finished projects and beautiful fabrics. My stepfather died recently, my husband had a pacemaker implant, and I've lost another five pounds. My present project is cleaning out 25 years of accumulation in the basement (which includes recaulking areas of walls). Can't believe we have so much "stuff" and can't believe there is so much left after all the trips to the Salvation Army and trash at the curb. I figure it will take me two or three years, but then, no one else will have the chore.

Well, checking in to read when I can. Life is busy and trying to find time.

This weekend I committed myself to do a small [read mini] quilt for Ami Sims' Alzheimer's Project. She is trying for 1000 quilt-lettes for Houston for auction in Nov. My mother passed from Alzheimer's in 1996, this Aug would have been her 93rd birthday. Our own Carol Doak gave me permission to use a design from her yahoo! paper-piecing group for the basis [thank you again, Carol!]. And working on a couple of other projects. Pacing myself energy-wise, as health issues raise their ugly head at most inopportune times.

So, high-fives of congratulations to those with accomplishments, hugs and shoulder-pats, tears and encouragement to those going through stressful times.

Still here, but mostly quiet, G> I got a msg. from Alice W. that she is in fact alive and well.

Looks like I'll be in/out thru Aug at the rate things are going with the remodeling/getting this place up to 'specs'. Have hired the teens cross the street to do a MAJOR housecleaning when all is said and done:) Figured they can use the money and I don't have to worry on either one of us overdoing as we're wont to do. Good news is I*AM* diong some work on DDs' quilt : ) Just make it a point to do a bit on my 'quieter' days. Read daily, as I do it during my 'rest' periods, thus moaning about not getting my usual 127.

Howdy!

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? "a cult"? Larisa, darlin', this is rather dramatic, isn't it? Honey, when your kids get to their pre-teen & teen years, you're in for a traumatic shock unless you learn to lighten up some now.

I reckon there are 2 sides to this family story anyway, and your niece's family may be thinking you're the side that needs help while they're surviving the best they know how. Try taking a few steps back and putting this into perspective: there's no blood, nobody's pregnant, and there's plenty for everyone to eat-- a few priorities we learned. ;-)

Why put off what you enjoy? Wanna' quilt? So quilt already!

And take it easy on your kids; they are just kids and they'll bounce.

My opinion... .

I don't post terribly often but I read regularly and get a LOT of inspiration from this group. I will be holding a "Subversive Sewing" workshop on Sat. at a local festival as well as being a volunteer worker during the entire festival (3 days plus 1 day each for set-up and break-down).
