Another LQS Gone

I remember shopping at Leah's a lot of years ago. I think they were in that area when we moved there in the early/mid 70's. They had a shop in the MV mall when it opened, if my memory is right. Maybe they came in a bit after we got there though. I left the area in '80. The fabric was beautiful. Seems there was one shop in Orange that we shopped at occasionally. It has been a long time. I know you have been a big fan of theirs. Always sad to lose an 'old friend'. There used to be a fairly nice small shop right across from the big MV rec center on Marguerite. That has been very long gone. There was a shop at LaPaz and Marguerite too. Funny how I can still remember fabric from all those stores. I hope Leah is able to have some quality of life they can both enjoy while retired. Taria

When I moved to Orange County in '90, Leah's was in the mall. She then moved the store to the corner of Margurite and Avery where she remained until she sold the store a couple of years ago to the gal who changed the name to A Time to Sew. Now on the corner of Margurite and La Paz is Moore's Sew and Vac. They have some very nice fabrics, but no where near as much as you find in an LQS. Due to the economy, they do not have anyone working in the fabric department on Sundays to cut fabric.

The area has changed dramatically since you left it. In the 20 years I have been here, it has turned into L.A. South with very few Orange trees left (I know there is still on in the backyard of my old house).

It was like no man's land when we moved there. You got of the fwy at El Toro or La Paz. Most all the houses you see now were just rolling hills. I wondered how we were going to survive there even then. It really had enough just not what we were used to up in the north part of the county. Dad rarely leaves the house these days. He is physically able but a hermit. If I see him we go there. The area is really foreign to me. He still has coyotes, possums and 'coons on his large hill though. Moore's was there in the late 80's. I remember looking at machines there when I bought my 930. The fabric store was opposite over by where Ralph's was across La Paz. Now that I get to thinking more up at the top of the hill on La Paz on the other side of the fwy there was a really nice fabric store that closed when Cloth World took over the Wild West Clothes store. Sheesh, there really have been a mess of fabric stores there that have gone under there over the years. Leah's has stood through most of the comings and goings and that says a lot for them. You have me down memory lane. Sorry to ramble on. We just got back from SD visiting our son the last couple of days. We started our marriage and family there. Boy has that made me nostalgic too. So where are you shopping for quilt fabrics now? We have lost 2 of the 3 LQS's here in the high desert in the last couple of months. Taria

On Commerce in Laguna Hills is Sewing Party and in LF, where Material Possessions used to be is Sacred Moondance. Moore's sells fabrics, although a huge variety. Most of the stores are in North County, or else if I want to battle traffic, Rosie's in SD is still going strong.

All of SO CA has changed. No more orange trees in OC, San Diego has extended up to the OC line. I remember in the days when I went to SDSU, as soon as I hit the OC line I could fly all the way down to San Diego and see may 5 other cars on the road. The 5 was 2 lanes each way through OC at that time, Oh how the times they are a changin'
