Another Towne Purse

I'm not sure who made the first one of these, but I remember it being blue denim. I thought it was so cute that I picked up the pattern at the Lancaster Heritage Quilt Show last month. The pattern was fun to make and the results can be seen under "public shoebox" in my webshots album.

I LOVE the Lazy Girl patterns and your purse is perfect! I think the Towne is one I haven't yet made. Chances are good that I already have the pattern though...;-) Purse and bag patterns are like potato chips with me, can't have just one.

I love the Towne Purse pattern. But my next one will be just a bit taller and deeper front to back. The zipper is separating on the one I have been carrying for almost a year now. (Yes, I over packed it-- sigh) For those of you that love bag/purse patterns, you do know that Joan has a Lazy Girls forum on Yahoo groups, yes??? It is great and you can see lots of examples of bags in the photo area. Plus get advance info and give input on future patterns/books. Joan also has a bag book out from Leisure Arts, "Bold Bags" with some really neat bags.

Yes Pati, I used to belong to the group but it was so talkative I just couldn't keep up. But I do get the newsletter from the site to get my fix.

Debi Matlack got me started on "Lazy Girl" designs, and I just love them. I was quite smitten with the "A-Door-Ables" pattern a couple Christmas' ago, and made about 15 of them for friends and family. They were filled with everything from candy to sewing notions to fq's to dog treats, and even filled one with everything needed for a "proper" pedicure. They were a hit, and so easy to do. Love that design company.

Pati, what are the insides of these bags like? Do they have pockets? Specifically, a cell phone pocket, a couple of other pockets for incidentals? I like to be able to find things easily?.

Sandy, The Towne Purse has four pockets on each side on the inside, and the pocket with a flap on the outside. I keep my cellphone in the outer one, so it's easy to reach.

Sandy, Joan puts inside pockets in almost all her bags. And you can easily customize the pockets. There are also outside pockets. I added a pocket for my sunglasses on the outside of my first Towne. The suggestion is to make one according to the pattern, then change and adapt it as you need. All the Lazy Girl patterns are super easy to add/modify pockets on/in. The Towne inside pockets go all the way around the inside of the bag, and you can sew dividing lines where you want to there.

Hope that helps and you will join us "Lazies".

Pati, in Phx (Need to find my pattern and get a new sample made. The ladies in my April Bag Ladies group, want to do the Towne instead of Gracie for June. In May we will do the Summer tote, another really easy/fast bag with lots of pockets.

Thanks, Pati! I may just explore what patterns she has and make myself a summer bag. I just finished one (not a Lazy), but I don't think it's big enough for an all-purpose bag.

Jumping in here, because I love the LGD patterns. Sandy, if you're looking for a good size without being too large, the Summer Tote may be what you'd like. Someday I'll finish making mine, but it has languished, neglected in favor of wedding quilt and baby quilt. A good craft tote is the Whimsy Bag, with lots of pockets inside and out and a good sized center area for stuffing full of whatever you want to carry.

Gosh, there are so many to choose from! Where do you get to see these made up, so a decision is easier??? And do you order the patterns direct from Lazy Girls, or do you get them somewhere local?

If you join the yahoo group you can see all the photos that have been posted of many different versions of many different bags. There is a link on the Lazy Girl website to a vendor, but you should also be able to get them from your LQS. They are distributed by several of the main suppliers. Joan is really good about listing the sizes of the bags on the covers too.

I have made several, including: Towne, Veronica, Purr-Snickities, Summer and Gracie. Have the Chloe, Wonder Wallet, Chelsea and City Bag patterns to make up soon. (May have another one or two, but can't remember at the moment.)

The Summer bag makes up really fast. I will be teaching that one next month at the shop.

Many online shops have them, the local Joanne's has a few, mot LQS have the more recent ones. The instructions are well illustrated and written so that it's easy to figure out. The patterns have a pic on the front that gives you a good idea what the finished product looks like and always has a good description. I usually pull the pattern open in the store to look too, but that's just me. They are well-described on her website

Thanks, Debi. I did look at her website, but I wanted to see them "up close and personal". I'll take a look at JoAnn's and at the LQS. :)

Thanks, Pati! I'm going to take a look at the LQS next week -- or at JoAnn's. I saw the sizes listed, but sometimes things look bigger/smaller in person. Do you know what I mean?

I used to belong to the Yahoo group, but it was just too active to keep up. Even on digest. The bags are really cute though. I seem to have a penchant for collecting purse patterns lately. Just bought another one today! (I forget the name of it...Sunday something.) Sheesh!
