It's great to look through all the quilts - such talent! And so many different styles. I love that there are so many ways to express yourself - I never realized how creative quilting could be!

And if you keep a "set" of fabrics/colors on hand just to try out blocks you can easily assemble them later into a sampler quilt. That will allow you to play with layouts involving different sized, and possibly differently shaped (squares and rectangles??), blocks too.

I know Polly I know. But but but.....well someone recently posted about the new Sally Terry Hooked on Feathers book so I ordered it. It looks very promising being the beginner in feathers that I am. I have an old old old double knit quilt top that my Grandma gave me when I graduated from high school that needs to be quilted. So I have made up my mind that I'm just gonna give it a whirl on this old double knit quilt top and see where it takes me. Did I say it's old? Well she has been dead for 22 years and I graduated from high school more than 10 years before she died. So the adventure begins.

Oh Patti, I know it's sad because I'm stifling my own creativity. It's just that I look at these wonderful creative bright awesome quilts and think to myself "I just don't the mathmatical skills to figure out all those angles and circles." and that's usually where I leave it and just go back to my comfort zone of 9 patch or half square triangle blocks. But you know what, I have a huge pile of scraps so I think I'll just dump them out and put them together in whatever fashion I pick them up and see what comes of it. Thank you for the encouragement.

You are an amazing quilter Sandy. Your work is absolutely gorgeous and I am nowhere nohow as good as you are. I just hope to be at that level one day. One reason I keep plugging away at it and venturing out of my comfort zone on the occasion. I know I'm just gonna have to take that big leap of faith and do it. I really want to try some paper piecing again and that is really out of my CZ, especially after the fiasco I made out of that one block. But you know what, I have 4 quilts that I want to make for some very dear people and I think that I just might try paper piecing on a couple of them. Let the adventure begin. Thats a great idea Pati, thanks. I just hadn't thought about that before. Besides I've always wanted to make a sampler type quilt but not one that has the typical blocks in it.
