AQS Online Quilt Contest

Checked my entry in the above mentioned contest (entry #1079) and it has me listed as Bronwyn Ferrier, Alabama instead of Australia! When I filled in the online entry form, I had difficulty in getting it to accept Australia as a country instead of a US state. Have just emailed them to see if they can correct the page. Have to laugh. Me, an Alabamanan? Interesting, there didnt seem to be any other non-US entries. May be they gave up as I nearly did.

LOL! I didn't notice that, Bronnie! I did vote for you -- even tried to do so twice, but they wouldn't let me. ;)

You remind me of the time the Olympics were in Atlanta. Someone in New Mexico was trying to buy tickets. For those of you who were not exposed to

3rd grade geography in the United States, "New" Mexico is one of those over by Utah and maybe Arizona. (It's been a long time since I was in the 3rd grade.) And (!) the person in charge of handling ticket reservations in Atlanta refused the request for tickets to be sent to New Mexico. She demanded that the request be made to the international sales office. No persuasion and no calling back in hopes of getting a different answer would work. New Mexico is a foreign country if you work in Atlanta. The same person must be receiving entries in the quilt competition. Not to worry. Alabama and Australia are both in the south - all though you do take your South a bit more seriously than we do. Polly

Oh, and that reminds me of DH and I visiting a historical farm village in Tx in '03 and the old farmer in the exhibit was telling us about the farm in old southern language and folksy manner, so much so, I thought he was 'acting' for us. He said he was a twin and his name was Elmo and his brother was Zelmo or some rhyming name. Oh no he wasn't. Anyhow after asking where we folks were from, we said Australia etc. At the end of the conversation he farewelled us saying, you folks have a good time getting back to Argentina. LOL. Bron

Yup, those people in New Mexico have a tough time of it lots of times because so many of us aren't familiar with the names of the states. New Mexico is right between Arizona and Texas, just below Colorado. Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah are the "four corners states" since they come together at one common point.

I just don't understand why so many in the US do not know the names of all the states. We all had to take tests on that subject in school (usually in both grade school and in high school). If they think New Mexico is a foreign country, New Hampshire must be as well, and I can only wonder where they think West Virginia or North Dakota might be located. Debra in VA See my quilts at

And maybe they think our national capitol is on the west coast? ;)
