Thank you to everyone for your help & feedback on this baby quilt that I made for my cousin's baby. In the end, I had to weigh "creative quilting" vs. "getting it done", & I'm afraid, "getting it done" won out. So, I ended up machine quilting more or less in the ditch.

thank you!
Yes, that's why I said "more or less in the ditch"!! ;o) Especially as the sqares aren't exactly straight either.... I'm not worried about those "faults". That's what makes it hand made & made with love by me! ;o)

Thank you everyone for the nice comments on my baby quilt.
The back art was a happy accident. I had originally made the quilt with only the inside sqares and already cut the back for that size. Then since the quilt was really too small, I added the two color stips & borders. Then realized I didn't have enough fabric to cover the whole back.... so, I had to piece the back.
I wouldn't have done it had it not been for the mess up in cutting. But I'm glad it turned out this way.
I just came back from sending it off to it's new home.

I like SITD & I like grids too. But my plans were all about daisies & butterflies & colored thread... :o) I'm a believer of KISS! (Keep it simple, silly!)
You are right, once the quilt is washed & dried & the little puckers & dimple arrive you don't really see the wobbles.

Thank you everyone! You are all so kind!! (sorry not to reply to each personally. I know that is frowned upon in some groups.... But I appreciate ever reply! :o)
Don't you just love those little bits of serendipity that jump into our quilts sometimes? Sometimes I think the quilt does most of the creative work and I'm just along to run the SM ;-)
I was amazed when I looked at the photos of your beautiful baby quilt. I just got the pieces cut out for a baby g ift that will be almost the same quilt! I hope mine turns out as beautiful. The difference is in the stripes of color in the border. The pattern calls for one stripe of one fabric. I love your idea of two stripes and making them multi-fabric. Can I please have permission to "steal" your design? It's really much prettier than the pattern I have, which my mom sent me from some old magazine.
Thanks, Sunny

Of course you can! I had initially planned on making this quilt:

But I decided it's best to use what was in the stash. I had all these 4" squares of these pastel colors lying around. So I just decided to use them as they were. Luckily my cousin had a baby girl!! :o)
Then when the quilt was too small, I stitched the remaining 4" squares together then cut out 3 1" strips. I would have done 4 1" but I need to cut some off to make the strips more or less straight! ;o) Basically, I didn't have anything else to do with these pastel squares so I wanted to use them up.
