Bernina Bernette 46

My first machine was a Bernette 75. Spent more time in the shop than at home. Since this was my first introduction to Bernina, when I traded it it, I refused to even look at Bernias. I think they did a disservice to themselves and their machines when they came out with this piece of garbage.

The Bernette range is a bought in and badged set. Not as good as some others. Look at the Janome Gems and some of the Brothers. I don't usually rate cheap Brothers, but if you look in the £200 plus bracket, there are some nice machines coming out now. Others to look out for if you want something small and light are the Frister & Rossman Cub 4 and the smaller Toyotas.

I hesitated to answer, because I never really tried one out. I did look at that line very briefly before I got my Bernina Activa, and the Bernette machines seemed very flimsy to me.

The Bernette line is re-badged from another brand and not of the highest quality. Unless you know it is something you like sewing on and they are giving it away, you might consider looking at something else.
